Next up was Roger Goring in the Firestorm Jet Funny Car. A great flame and smoke show and then a stage foul so no time and speed, but from here it looked the equal of his earlier 6.240. We have Pro ET and Junior Dragster semis to come and then finals in all other classes, stay tuned. 16:45 Super Street eliminations round 3 winners: Neil Grant 10.827/132.95 bye, John Grant 10.897/127.28 Brothers in the Super Street final! In his match-up against Steve Wells, Ian Norman's Pop started to shake very hard off the line and the reason soon became clear as pieces of metal and fluid started to appear from under the car as the transmission broke. Judging by the amount of pieces on the track and the speed with which Ian got the door open or it was blown open I would imagine that was a pretty major failure. Ian was shaken but OK. Trackside conditions are 10.6 C, 50% humidity and 29.74 inches of air, track temperature on the start line is 17.6 C. 14:45 Super Modified eliminations round 2 winners: Andy Kirk 7.661/179.64, Kev Perkins 7.568/179.30 bye We think a new personal best for Andy Kirk, well done Andy! It's race day at the Shakespeare Nationals and we're all set to bring you the news in association with American Car Imports. The Webster Race Engineering/MPM Oil webcam is already on line and broadcasting a picture every two minutes; you can view the webcam from the Event Index page. The weather is a little different today. We had some light rain between 5:00 and 6:00 this morning, but the track didn't suffer too badly and the sweepers are at work. Right now it is overcast, trackside conditions are 7.5 C, 62% humidity and 29.80 inches of air. The forecast is for brighter weather by lunchtime. Onto the greetings and the traditional Good Morning to Ed O'Connell and Kathy Hileman, Eurodragster.com's UC correspondents, who are tuned in from New Hampshire. Hope you are enjoying the coverage guys. A big Hello also to Gittli Koller, Libby Mottershead and Sean Bowe who have all been in touch; the answer to your question, Sean, is "Not about my person". We have a birthday here at the track today, a big Happy Birthday to Cath Napier whose husband Tig races in Pro ET. Tig says that he is hoping to give Cath a nine-second pass for her birthday. Good luck with that, Tig, and have a very Happy Birthday Cath. Congratulations also to Funny Bike racer Chris Hall and his partner Becky who have got engaged, here's to a long and happy future for Chris and Becky. No pit notes to speak of as Simon is busy on the timing crew but one interesting story is from Street Eliminator racer Ian Hook who disappeared after the first qualifying session yesterday. Whilst we all assumed mechanical woes, what actually happened was that Fatty was in agony with one of his teeth and went back to Cheltenham to have some emergency root canal work done. Luckily Fatty's sister-in-law is a dentist so she opened up the surgery just for him. "The injection into the nerve really hurt but after about five seconds the pain was gone", said Fatty. Meanwhile two of Fatty's crew have been to Yorkshire to get some new solenoids, which have been installed and Fatty says that they will be applying a very big stick to the tune-up. Eliminations are due to start at 11:00 so stay tuned and as soon as those engines start up you'll be the first to know. Reports and pictures ©Eurodragster.com |
