Haral made licencing passes in a Comp Eliminator dragster a short while ago and the next step was, of course, to make a burnout and a launch in a Top Fuel Dragster under the watchful eye of car owner Rune Fjeld and usual driver Thomas Nataas. Haral put in an excellent burnout, then on the green he hit the throttle and the revs went up as you would expect and the car didn't move - unburnt fuel spewed from all of the headers and Sharkman at trackside reported that he got showered with nitro. It was as if the car was in neutral. Haral kept hitting the throttle and Rune Fjeld ran into Haral's field of vision and signalled him to shut off. It transpired that the car was in reverse after Haral put it in stage, and on the hit the drive shaft broke and did all sorts of nastiness inside the engine and transmission. "I feel like a schmuck" was Haral's comment when interviewed by John Price. The car is due out again in an hour and a quarter, with Thomas Nataas back in the seat, for the next Top Fuel match race. Of course a fine precedent has now been set for putting a journalist into the seat of a Top Fuel Dragster... 15:20 Junior Dragster qualifying final top five:

It's day two of the Custom Car Magazine Allstar Nationals and we're here to bring you all the news in association with American Car Imports. The Webster Race Engineering/MPM Oil webcam is on-line and broadcasting a picture every two minutes. It's a beautiful day today, sunny and warm. Weather conditions at trackside are 18.7 C, 71% humidity, and 30.06 inches of air. The plan for today is to finish the fourth cycle of qualifying, then to have a fifth cycle. After that there will be a break for the Top Fuel and Pro Mod match races and the Firestorm Jet FC, and the burnout contest, and then we are into eliminations with at least Pro ET and Junior Dragster scheduled to race. I must apologise to our friends on the 200mph forum for the little scare with Steve Venables' apparent world record pass yesterday. Of course Ven's run was 7.808 not 7.080 and I promise I will take a bit more care over my proof-reading today! Ven backed up his 195.24 record in yesterday's third qualifying session. As you are probably aware our pitside reporter Simon works on the timing crew here at SCR but we are very pleased to say that Simon had some time to step out into the pits last night and you can access his pit notes from the Event Index page. It was a tremendous day yesterday with three and a half qualifying cycles completed despite a big oildown and SCR's curfew, well done to race and track officials and the racers. Race Director Ozzy Ewing asked us to publish this statement of appreciation: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank all competitors who helped to ensure the smooth running of all of yesterday's qualifying sessions. "Special thanks go to all of the bike competitors who helped by pulling forward their qualifying slots during Q1 and Q2. "Unfortunately car scrutineer Paul Satchell suffered a heart attack during the week, and this doubled our workload for this event. I'm sure that all competitors and crew would like to wish Paul a speedy and confortable recovery, and to send their best wishes to Paul's wife Beth." We're sure that all of our readers will join us in wishing Paul all the best. Qualifying is due to start at 11:00, so stay tuned and as soon as the action starts we will bring you the news.
