Ricky Hale spun the tyres and part of the silencer came off. Ashley Cooper with new turbos went up from #9 to #8. Tony Higgs improved but stayed in position. Mark Sheridan with a gentle launch then had a huge 182mph speed after the turbos kicked in. Al McSweeney went into the sevens and up from #4 to #2. James Murray with a time and into #10. Nitrous purge from Graham Smith, but no quicker.

Brian Huxley suffered an gearbox related problem in his V8 powered Focus ZX3, leading to a fire and big cloud of smoke off the line, leaving a huge trail of fluid. Pause for cleanup. We looked at the car and it transpired the gearbox had let go and the fluids ignited on the hot firewall. Brian exited the car unharmed and it was towed back to the pits.

Steve Mellors suffered breakage in his Mazda Hulk MX5, runs a spare Audi and promptly went quicker than he ever did in the Mazda (so far). 0.004 light for Ashley Symon in his tyrespinning Skyline. The Powerflow Jag XK8 of Liam Sturman made its first launch and then something happened and the brake lights came on at 330ft. Troy Atree broke on the line and reversed back. Chris Creswell into #1, Caitlin Wilson into #2 with a 0.09 package! Jack McClure's 100e changed class and broke out, Susie McClure alongside in a Dodge Ram which emitted a fair amount of clutch smoke. Felicity Gibbs into #2.

Alongside Anna Sasiak who had problems staging. Andrew Christophi justified his move up from 8.50 Bike, Mark Dainty on a new JKE Race Works built bike went to the right on the launch and lifted. John McLean also lifted after an arrow straight launch.
New bike for Jasmine Cordelle, restarted after the burnout, engine cut out on the launch and pushed back. Sigmaro Profas from Amsterdam recorded no time or speed due to a stage foul.

Andy Hadfield with a pop and smoke out of the left bank on his run, pedal for Tom Atkinson but still a fast speed 162.45. AC Bell in his gen 3 Firebird with a new PB of 8.770/156.27, well done AC! Alongside Jack Brewster whose Gen 1 car went to the left with tyre shake on the left side. John Tebenham with Simon Letkey of Veedub Racing acting as videographer for the team this weekend, car rolled through stage; JT mentioned there had been electrical problems with the transbrake during a test fire-up, although the rebuilt engine from I.C.E. was sounding great.
Next Rob Brown after John Wright had had a look at the engine of Rebel and solved an issue that was bugging the team, the car launched to 1.2063 60ft and crossed into the other empty lane shortly after 60ft, great save by Rob! Car came to a halt near the finish line and was towed to the first exit. Then Kieran Astley with a 7.99 dial in after yesterday's PB run, new PB of 8.0451/175.74 to #3 vs Joe Kellett in Dolly Daydream as his dragster is for sale. Matt Peters in the Lucas Oil car overseen by Nick Good to #5 v Lee Huxley who went to #3, then the dragsters of Scott Hauser and Alan Didwell, pair of breakouts in the great air. Ashley Bell's new Chevelle resplendent in black alongside Barry Giles who went to #2. Steve Saunders' new altered had another great launch to 1.1832 60ft then lifted.

Freddie Taylor and Ellie May Brown, Freddie into #2, then Kai and Jake Cooper, Kai into #1 as Jake's engine stalled off the line and was pushed back, but the RT still stands.

Good morning and welcome to our coverage of Day 1 of the STP Springspeed Nationals from Santa Pod Raceway. The weather is sunny and clear albeit with a 5C chill in the air currently, although that will rise to 12C later in the day. The density altitude is currently -868ft and these 'mineshaft' conditions will remain through much of the day, rising to maximum of 173ft, it is forecast by airdensityonline.com.
We had a good day of testing yesterday, albeit truncated by rain during the morning. Star of the testing was Perfect ET sponsor Andy Hadfield who went 7.43/185 in Twister in his very first run after the winter break. You can see photos of the team's reaction in Julian's on-track gallery. There were other personal bests too, Terry Newton's FWD Ford Escort van (the one with the naughty trailer rear door) ran a PB of 9.289/153.65, and Kieran Astley a 8.1475/174.95 in his LS-engined dragster. Commiserations to those who had problems, particularly Jordan Kenway whose new Funny Bike engine let go two seconds into the burnout.
Hi to Eurodragsterholics everywhere, Mike Kraaij got in touch to tell us Funny Bike racer Maarten Zijlstra is running is the ex Dave Dunlop Fast by Me (FBM) machine that used to have the Sex Pistols decals on it. It is the first time he is running a turbocharged methanol Funny Bike; he used to run with Nitrous Oxide and gasoline race fuel, he still owns that Pro Mod Bike. Also Mike Olie is running his homebuilt funnybike with a Kawasaki ZX14 engine and is also turbocharged using methanol as fuel. lots of potential from these two bikes!"
