Good morning and welcome to day 4 of our coverage of the 2023 FIA/FIM-E Euro Finals from Santa Pod Raceway. The sky is clear and temperatures similar to previous days, currently 18C and forecast to go u pto 29C. The wind is 13 mph from the south. Density altitude from airdensityonline.com, is currently 1800ft and is predicted to rise to just short of 2800ft, with 88-94 grains of water, also consistent with the prior days. As yesterday, we will report on the KEG traction readings at the top of the page.
Today is the day when all the 2023 FIA and FIM-E Championships are decided. Congratulations to Ida Zetterström (Top Fuel), Jan Ericsson (Pro Modified), Rikard Gustafsson (Top Fuel Bike), Marcus Christiansen (Super Twin Bike) and Bertrand Maurice (Pro Stock Bike) who are provisional champions subject to ratification. There are three contestants still for the championships in Top Methano and Pro Stock Car and we calculate that Alan Morrison Jnr needs to win one round of racing to secure the Super Street Bike Championship. Junior Drag Bike will be closely contested between Richard Willcox, Alia Lester, Harry Isaacs and Hollie King.
Yesterday the Street Eliminator cruise took place. Diana was with the teams and told us it had some unexpected excitement for a few. "Pro Mod racer Kev Slyfield's favourite car is Mark Sheridan's Cuda so Mark's team we put Elaine, his wife, in it for the cruise, driven by Brian "Harry" Palmer (Mark Sheridan's crew chief). Meanwhile Andy Bond had the winner of last year's auction in his.
"Joe stevens was back within 30 minutes which was quicker than expected, but he was fuming, he hit a pothole that threw the car across the road, leaving it unroadworthy so an early return for him. We then had a the call from Al Williamson who suffered an overheating oil pump and needed recovery. Martin "The Brain" Kerr jumped in Tony Higgs' recovery vehicle and shot off to get him.
"Then boom, a call from Harry, the Cuda wouldn't do a hot start, and Mark Sheridan went off to recover him. Also, Ricky Hale didn't do cruise as the pickup had low oil pressure. What a night!" We also understand Mark Todd had an oil leak on the main rear seal on the cruise and will not make eliminations.
Thanks to those who have got in touch. We had an e-mail from Wolfgang "Woppe" Windwarder, a very good friend of, and mechanic with, Super Street Bike racer Erich Gruber from Austria. Woppe says he was sorry he couldn't come to the race, his place has been taken by Erich's brother Robert, and he congratulates Erich on being one of the oldest competitors at 71 years young.
