Funny Car 1000ft Cannonball round 2
Kevin Chapman 6.3185/110.42 def. Steve Ashdown 8.3634/77.91
Kevin Chapman arrived late into the lanes, we originally thought he would be a no-show in this round, but was the beneficiary of an extended oil-down delay in the Auto Glym lane and the team worked their hardest to be ready. Steve first to burn out followed by Kevin whose engine was idling at a high level, the car getting into reverse ok. Kevin staged full followed by Steve. Steve away first, +0.1703 to +0.4515 for Kevin, identical 60fts for each .9457 then Kevin first to eighth 4.2652/121.66 to Steve's 5.4137/81.98 and both off the throttle before the eighth

Paul with gear change issues but kept going until after the eighth, 1.3276 to 60ft and 4.6545/170.46 to half track.
Andy Raw 5.5849/194.70 def Tony Betts, D/Q crossed centre line
Andy's car refused to engage reverse and was pushed back with the engine still running, Andy pushed into stage. Tony left first 0.1911 RT to +0.4854 for Andy, and after 60 ft in 1.0501, quickest this weekend, the car took a hard right with tyre shake and hit the right wall hard enough to lift the left side of the car and, with the parachutes deployed by the electromotive saftety system it continued quite possibly with broken steering across the track to hit the left wall at about 900ft, and continued down the left lane. Tony got out of his car under his own steam and was walking around, meanwhile Andy had another good run, 1.0640 to 60ft, 4.3376/169.15 to half track. Tony's half track times were 4.7864/118.38 before he crossed the centre line.

Antti couldn't get reverse so had to be pushed back with the engine running. Susanne waited patiently as the temperatures rose. They staged, Susanne first and Antti had an explosion and blower belt off at half track, Susanne an explosion further down. Times were 0.8372 60ft, 3.3054/196.79 to the eighth for Susanne and 0.8426 to 60ft and 3.8033/136.33 to the eighth for Antti.

Wheelie off the line for Elaine Hancock, outstanding consistency. Stacey Fenton had a gearbox problem so the engine was transplanted into Simon Cowley's Golf, which had suffered a broken engine - and gearbox problems on this run. Kev Perkins into no.1 position. The AA/PM index changed back to 7.06 for Matt Peters' second run in the class, there must have been a ruling. Matt's Avenger had a tail wag around half track, but his best run in the car to date.

Steve Saunders, Dave Russell and Dave Evans out with various mechanical breakage, thanks to Kirstie and Diana for the updates. Session started with four breakouts. Steve Johnson 7.67/185, but still with handling problems - and no chute deployed. Mick Taylor improved to 8.15/169.16 after a double step off the startline which must have cost him a couple of tenths and maybe his first seven. 7.4134 for Scott Hauser, possibly his quickest ever, but a breakout so celebrations muted. Mark Flavell out with a broken transmission pump thanks to Kirstie for this update.

Al Smith 1.0478 to 60ft, 4.0964/184.32 to half track. All riders improved, no Marcus though.

Kev v Elaine, Kev much improved 8.11/152, 1.183 to 60ft. Simon Cowley's first run, a toolbox loose in the car corrected, against George Chiarella who improved. First run also for Kev Perkins in the Olds Cutlass that has been around British Drag Racing for over 25 years, running in Pro Mod, Super Mod and now Comp Eliminator. Sounds like a high gear launch and drifted very close to the 1000ft blocks. Then Matt Peters who has switched classes. Matt running in AA/PM, ran 1.25 to 60ft 4.936/128.60 to half track and pulled the chute, should complete his half track procedure.

Top Fuel test run
Susanne Callin came back after the post burnout issue which resulted in her parachute being deployed on the previous run. Shorter 60ft burnout and the revs staying at normal level. This only her second pass in the ex-Liam Jones car. Great launch to a 4.6803/160.75, off the throttle after the eighth, 0.8491 to 60ft, 3.3408/193.79 to the eighth. Strong pass, no apparent damage, track checked afterwards and tractor called.

All Cannonball runs will be to 1000ft. Purists, please write elsewhere. Kevin pulled to just below the tower with Steve a bit further back for their start. US racer and tuner Terry Haddock overseeing the Thermoreg team operation. Both had the throttle on to 330ft yesterday, will they get down the track today? A big fuel leak out of Kevin's car on the burnout and Kevin was told to click it off. In the meantime Steve reversed and staged. Steve went to 330ft cleanly before the tyres got loose, 0.1454RT, 0.9658 to 60ft and 4.1772/127.89 to the eighth. It was later decided to refuel Kevin and allow him to run as there was no breakage.

Two nostalgia cars next. Paul Harris much more at home with the handbrake on the left but the car wouldn't go into high gear. Adjustments made, cars went into stage together. Tony off the line first +0.1601 to +0.2883, 1.0750 60ft, 4.1972/179.10 to the eighth, Paul's car wouldn't go into high gear again and smoke from under it, 1.1107 to 60ft and 4.7970/106.43 to half track. Tony's car drifted left and was very close to the wall in the shutdown area.

Short burnout for Kevin, came to a halt before the startline. Andy burned out to 150ft. Terry Haddock made adjustments to the injector hat. Andy in full stage before Kevin pre-staged. Andy left first +0.3904 to +0.4470 RTs and was dead straight, 1.0900 to 60ft and 4.2471 /174.27 to the eighth as Kevin ran 0.9218 to 60ft and 4.4097/113.55 to the eighth, off the throttle before then. Great win for Andy, team elated

Antti Horto 4.2075/204.07 bye run
Antti and Susanne are scheduled to run twice today and twice tomorrow. Antti made a promising start yesterday evening with a 4.11 as Susanne got off the line quickly but went into tyre shake. Susanne burned out first in the STP lane but the electromotive system deployed the parachutes following high revs on the burnout and Susanne shutting the engine down. Antti was shut down but will restart as he was rolled back into the garage area for cooling down. More to come.
Antti got to run again at 13:00 and did a full pass, 0.8415 to 60ft, 3.1445/239.73 to the eighth, great pass until fire at 900ft, hopefully not too much internal damage.

Another Small F Super Pro ET qualifying session 6
News from the pits that Dave Russell and Steve Saunders have suffered breakage and Dave Evans has broken and left the track. Dave Russell said the burnout chip came loose with the vibration causing the engine to overfuel which may have damaged it. Tom Atkinson up from 10th to 5th with 0.004 RT Al Didwell up from 13th to 8th, Ron Bartlett came back and went 8.403/164 but 8.31 dial in. Ashley Bell looking for new slicks, see earlier for contact details. Mick Taylor made a move to the right for a 8.25. Joe Kellett up one spot to #12, 7.52 on a 7.49 so the new car looking promising. Mark Flavell lost reverse after the burnout at 330ft and was pushed back by four marshals and two team members which will improve all their fitness levels. On the green, Mark barely moved and sidelined the car, looks like overall gearbox breakage. Short pause for startline sweep. Steve Saunders v Elaine Hancock next. Elaine had a 8.4716/157.38 and Steve went for a wander over his lane after a wheels up launch and subsequent briefer loss of traction than last time. Colin Millar close to the centre line but steered it away.

Al Smith v Steve Woollatt. Steve's engine stopped and then re-ignited with the idle an issue after the burnout. At that point Steve decided to cut the engine and correct the problem before the next session. Al waited patiently then chose to run against Marcus Christiansen. Both straight runs, Marcus 1.0760 2.7108 to 60ft, 4.0641/180.33 to the eighth, Al 1.0650 to 60ft, 4.1004/184.96 to the eighth. Great matchup, Marcus into #1.
Marcus Christiansen said he is here from Denmark with a lot of new updates on the bike for this year. "It's been quite boring and this is our only chance to race this season. This is the greatest track in Europe".

Problems for Lorcan Parnell. The Storm Dragbike team have been helpfully placing updates on their Facebook page and said "Our second run yesterday was immediately shut off as the air hose to the clutch came loose, resulting in no drive. Further inspection showed a broken bolt on the idler gear mount so the primary drive casing was stripped down to replace it. We then noticed a crack around the weld around the clutch cover, so Mick took it away and welded it in the evening." Thanks to the team for the update and we hope Lorcan and Mick and crew can get the bike back to form later in the event.

Steve Johnson's launched bounced off the wheelie bar, all four wheels off the track at at least one point but then lifted off the throttle shortly thereafter. Phil Toppin moved up from 10th to 6th. Dave Russell in The Van With No Name towed back to the pits after the burnout, hope the team get him back out. Colin Millar with a 250ft burnout; we learned that John Tebenham, who also enjoys burnouts, has departed the facility with mechanical breakage to The Crew Killer. Ron Bartlett pushed back after the burnout with a silent motor. Elaine Hancock put in a respectable bid to replace JT in the burnout stakes. She moved up from 11th to 8th alongside Scott 'Where's Our Tow Cart' Hauser. Joe Kellett up from 19th to 12th in his new ride, with 1.055 to 60ft.

Katie Ellis up from 24th to 5th with +0.1006; due to a timing system glitch we had two Katies in the standings yesterday, the genuine one is JMA8.

Good morning from Santa Pod Raceway and welcome to the second day of our coverage of racing at Not The European Finals. It's drying after dampness earlier and the jet track dryer is out drying the surface with the sledder and sweeper also at work. The clouds are disappearing to the right of the track and the temperature is a mild 14C (64F) rising to 19C (66F).
Yesterday was the nitro show in the evening and what a show it was. The track management sensibly started the show an hour earlier than originally planned as track temperatures were falling rapidly, and several cars got down the track. The main excitement came when Jason Phelps in Mark and Jackie Hawkins' Gladiator went against Andy Raw in Nitro Bug. Andy gave him a run for his money at the start and then the Gladiator's flames built - and then kaboom, as the supercharger let go, destroying the body. Jason got out and appeared completely unfazed in a startline interview only 10 minutes later. We wish the team well as they rebuild and you can be sure they will be back - Funny Cars are their life.
Today we will be starting with the remainder of qualifying session no.5 and will then go to the third Pro Mod/Top Fuel Bike/Jet show at 11:00 with the Nitro Show at noon with the same shows later at 14:00 and 15:15 respectively. The five remaining Funny Cars will be running a Cannonball race with two changes to traditional rules - a no-show will incur a five second penalty as well as the slowest time in that session, and the fourth round tomorrow will include all cars racing 1 v 2, 3 v 4 and 5 v 6 in terms of accumulated time, to decide a final ranking.
A big good morning to Eurodragsterholics everywhere including Kai Plathan and Otto, and also to those following coverage in other countries who would rather be here, we'll hopefully see you in 2021. The track is now being sprayed with glue so will come back when the wheels start turning.
