Pro Stock and Pro Modified racer Jimmy Ålund took his eleventh championship in style at the Summit Internationals at Tierp at the end of August, the event sponsored by Jimmy's main supporter. He qualified number one at 6.551/211, having failed to go down the track only once, overccoking it in session three and his other times being 6.57 and 6.56. At Tierp he had set a new European ET record of 6.485. Congratulations to Jimmy on his championship!

Top Fuel Bike racer Rickard Gustafsson struggled a little by his high standards after a great start with 5.966/223 in the first session, then having problems down track in session two when the crank split in two. Rikard's spare crank was in the Netherlands and so Gert-jan Laseur's team offered to help. Robbie Menke of Gert-jan's team flew over to the Netherlands, collected the crank, made it back to Amsterdam airport in time and flew back to Luton so that Rickard's team could reassemble the engine and run in eliminations. So a big well done to Robbie, and Rickard repaid the debt by running a 6.001/219 and keeping the championship alive.


Supertwin racer Marc van den Boer from Belgium ran his first six in qualifying, a time of 6.912/193. The bike has a Pete Brown frame and Magnum unblown engine built in 2011 and is sponsored by HD Hutten Harley SPC and FRT Machinerie. The previous weekend Marc had run to third place at Mosten Raceday and the team were confident coming into this event. But knocking over 1.3s off their PB from a year ago in competition is extraordinary.

Supertwin racer Allan Davies qualified number seven with a 7.616/181, and improved to 7.274/188 to upset Martijn de Haas, who had qualified second with a 6.613/213. Mark 'Nipper' Stevens of the team reported some piston damage but they were replaced in time, the two pistons and rods being from a Top Fuel Dragster engine.


Top Fuel Bike racer Glenn Borg qualified seventh with a 6.709/187 however the team reported lots of broken pieces during qualifying. In round one of eliminations, a 6.965/159 was not enough for Rickard Gustafsson. Glenn's team in the background are Joe Briffa Krojs, Xristos Togias, Nikos Tzanidakis and Gabriel Briffa.

super Street Bike racer Steve Venables has been on a roll this weekend. He came into the event leading the points by a large margin and then ran a new record 6.826/216 to outpace the field by over a tenth. A win in round one was enough for the championship and then he ran a 6.82 and 6.83 in the next two rounds.


Super Street Bike racer Graham Balchin was into the sixes with a 6.977/205, one of the first Kawasaki bikes in Europe to gain this distinction. He repeated the six in round two of eliminations, 6.983/202, however Steve Mead left on him and beat him on a holeshot.

Super Street Bike racer Daniel Donat Lencses was number two qualifier with a 6.941/204 and was pleased. 'We have been fighting with the team for this result for a long time!' he said. A win against Clemens Walleit in round one was followed by a surprise defeat to Yannick Richard in round two.


Pro Stock Bike racer Len Paget had former crew chief Dave Ward and 'crew chief in training' Rees Paget present along with wife Jilly. Len ran a best of 7.393/177 in qualifying to go fifth, but in round one he was defeated by Martin Bishop, 7.36 to 7.42.

Pro Mod and Super Pro ET racer John Tebenham defeated Bobby Wallace in round one and in doing so ran his first five, a 5.975/238. John said 'It's been an amazing event and I thank my crew Luke Robinson, Ricki Packham and Ricky Emms and others.


Funny Car racer Kevin Chapman's crew John Spuffard and tuner John 'Bodie' Smith were pleased that driver Kevin Chapman won the championship by virtue of his first round win, but admitted that there was much mechanical carnage in doing so. Kevin said 'We have severely damaged two engines this event already so unfortunately I won't be coming out for the final. I will save my money for next season'.

Top Fuel Dragster racer Jndia Erbacher had suffered severe engine damage in her first round defeat of Susanne Callin, and the team had only a short time to get the car ready for the semi final against Anita Mäkelä. Jndia said 'The engine had pushed a rod out yesterday and we had the same problem this morning. It didn't sound good after the burnout but we made the run anyway. After the breakage we had to replace the whole engine and so borrowed the engine from Tethys's car after he lost in round one'. Her run yesterday, 3.880/313 placed her second in qualifying and her first round time was 4.104/236, the engine eating itself at the end of the run.


Top Fuel Dragster racer and 2019 European Champion Anita Mäkelä was still in competitive mood after securing the title. 'I always think I have got to beat them all. The car has been consistent so far and easier today as it's warmer. I can't thank my crew enough, they work so hard and they have been at their best this year. They deserve a lot of the glory'. Her qualifying best was 3.903/308 and in round one she defeated Stig Neergaard with a 3.900/296 to Stig's 4.062/245 and then in the semi final she improved to a 3.821/313 in the semi final. In the final she beat Liam Jones with an engine-exploding 3.850/297.

Top Fuel Dragster racer Liam Jones suffered shake during qualifying, qualifying on the bubble. A lot of work took place overnight and he came out loaded, but the shake still happened in round one. Then Liam had two bits of luck, in round one Maja Udtian went up in smoke and she had to lift, and then Patrik Pers was unable to make the semi final, giving Liam a bye into the final.


Top Fuel Dragster racer Patrik Pers was disappointed not to stay in competition despite having defeated Tethys in round one, 5.185 to 5.866. He said 'Against Tethys I had more tyre shake and had to pedal, but the engine sustained major damage. We had damaged another engine in Q4 but we do have another three engines in the trailer. There was body damage as well, and in particular the cracked windscreen was unrepairable in the time we had so we were forced to withdraw'.

Pro Stock Bike racer Martin Bishop had a good event, running 7.375/180 in qualifying to go fourth, and then defeating Len Paget in round one with a 7.363/181 before breaking in round two. Timon Marshall is leaving the crew after ten years for family reasons and we wish him all the best for the future.


Pro Modified racer David Vegter ran a 5.824 to defeat Kev Slyfield in round one, then had a lucky break when Kim Kristiansen was bulbed by the autostart on the Chritmas Tree. The team had told us that the engine was wounded and the easy pass gave them a chance to effect repairs. So he came back for the semi final against Jan Ericsson - and red-lit away a 5.847/239 to Jan's 6.022. So David ended up in fourth place in the championship, but with a very quick race car for next year's championship.

Pro Modified racer Jean Dulamon had never won a round in FIA competition in the past, but today he got to the final. In round one he ran a single when Roger Johansson broke, then ran his first five (5.995/242) in a holeshot defeat of Mats Eriksson, then in the semi final with a 6.255/230 defeated Jimmy Ålund who red-lit and then shut off. In the final it was Jean vs Jan Ericsson, and Jean went for it, red-lighting, hitting the 330foot reflector after the race became a pedalfest with shake.


Pro Stock racer Michael Malmgren is using a Bob Ingles engine again here after damage to his Gray Motorsports engine, and his qualifying time of 6.608/208 placed him third. After the meeting Michael and Monica will be taking a snorkelling holiday on a tropical island in the Indian Ocean. But business today is defending second place in the championship from Robin Norén and Bengt Ljungdahl who are ten and 26 points behind respectively.

Pro Stock racer Robin Norén's crew member Ian Hart said 'It was fantastic to run a new PB of 6.58. We had changed the rear ring gear in order to pick up more speed in the back end of the course. Our year was boosted greatly by being runner-up in Hockenheim and winning over a big field at Tierp. The car is performing well and the driver is improving!'


Top Methanol Dragster racer Jonny Lagg is crewed by brothers Tim Read and Glenn Read, members of the British Drag Racing Hall of Fame. They said 'Going back to the Brad Andersen heads has meant that the inlet manifold is larger than the head and as a result there was too much fuel going in. It sounded good but we will need to tune it for the race'.

Top Methanol Funny Car racer, and Eurodragster.com sponsor through Dyno Unlimited, Sandro Bellio (pictured with brother Christiano) was confirmed as Champion after qualifying and congratulations to him. He said 'We enjoyed racing at Tierp and taking the win there. We have also run well here and it was good to run 5.56 and 5.58 yesterday, we are fine tuning to go quicker and feel it was too aggressive yesterday'. The tuning calls were good, as the car went 5.49/263 in the final session. Next year the team are trying to get funding for the whole series.


Pro Modified racer Jan Ericsson said 'After losing to Micke Gullqvist at Tierp, where the blower belt went, the championship has become very tight. We are relying on qualifying well and going rounds on raceday. Our campaign next year depends on the sponsors, the team availability and work commitments, we will see what happens'. With Micke G out first round, the door opened for Jan again.

Pro Modified racer Mats Eriksson is qualified fourth with a best of 5.897. Earlier he had said 'We want to get into the 5.8s this weekend and running 5.92 was a signal it is possible. The car feels good and there is no shake and the car is not getting loose'. In round one he ran 5.843/244, a new PB in his win against Marcus Hilt. Mats said that business-wise he is doing more sales of Docol R8 tubing than racecar building, and he has built up stock to around 100 tons in order to sell the product across Europe.


Pro Modified racer Marck Hartefeld ended up unqualified giving Kev Slyfield an opening to regaining the Motorsport UK championship lead here. However Kev went out in round one to David Vegter and so the Uk Championship is still up for grabs. Marck reflected 'We need more runs and better information to tune the car in the different conditions and have as good a setup as the other teams'.

Pro Modified racer Dmitry Samorukov was pleased to run back to back 5.99s in qualifying but then wanted to go quicker. 'Our terminal speed is good and if we have a better 60ft we can run a 5.8; clutch adjustment should help that'. Dmitry is pictured with Tigran who is head of the Russian Drag Racing Association. Tigran said 'There are three tracks in Russia, one new track is close to Moscow and has a professional layout, the others are part of circuits and are glued for the first 200m only to avoid problems for circuit racing. We have been running for over seven years and have progressed to running doorslammer classes, however the backbone of the sport is Japanese cars, all wheel drive and in particular front wheel drive cars which have gone as quick as 8.4 and the crowd likes'.


Top Methanol Dragster racer Manty Bagueja is relinquishing the seat of the Mr Whippy dragster to Matthew Carrabott, son of car owner Joe. Matthew said 'I wanted to run a licensing pass on Wednesday but had problems with engine parts not having arrived, so I will have to wait until next May to get my FIA licence'. The team was also unable to run on Friday but eventually the parts arrived, and after a wheelspin-filled run in Q3 due to the wheelie bar being fixed too low, Manty ran a 5.564/265 in session four to go third out of a four car field. Manty won the dramatic final after a long burndown against Sandro Bellio and then running his best time of the event, a 5.303.

Top Methanol Dragster racer Silvio Strauch had launched hard with the wheels up in all his meetings so far this year, but at the team's first appearance at Santa Pod Raceway, the wheelie bar malfunctioned in session three and the car did a 45 degree wheelie the front end crashing down and breaking the wheels off the A-arm at the front. The wheelie bar was unharmed, and the team were planning to have Mats Eriksson weld the front so the team were able to compete today.


Top Methanol Funny Car racer Sascha Prezsch was making licensing passes at Hockenheim and this event, but was hampered by weather at Hockenheim. However a couple of mid sixes showed he is acclimatising to his new ride, quite different from his Comp Eliminator doorslammer. The Chevy Monte Carlo was bought from Greg Hunter in the US.

Pro Modified racer Marcus Hilt has been working with US legend Camp Stanley for some years and yesterday it all came together in the final qualifying session and he ran an arrow straight 6.155/225. However in round one of eliminations, Marcus's engine was unhappy and the left bank and catch can were smoking, indicating there had been damage.
