20:20

FIM Europe Pro Stock Bike qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Len Paget 12.5906/57.76 bye;

Len to sixty in 1.1773 but smoke, I suspect tyre spin, motor sounded to be suffering and off the gas before the eighth. Clean up of the first few feet then a hand spray. None of the other PSBs ran.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Len Paget 12.5906/57.76

20:15

Nostalgia Funny Car session 1 (left lane first)

Tim Garlick 6.2415/215.11, Tony Betts 8.1427/107.94

1.0680 to sixty for Tim, 1.0808 for Tony, Tony off the gas before the eighth 4.4177/140.18, Tim on the gas all the way, 4.0883/184.96 at the eighth, nitro flames clearly visible all the way to the stripe.

20:05

Fuel Funny Car qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Birgitte Bremnes did not stage, bye; Kevin Kent 10.5231/67.62, Steve Ashdown 5.9169/124.90;

Burnout for Birgitte but carried on down the track, didn't look to try to brake and got off the track without incident so I am guessing that it was a deliberate decision not to come back. Given the conditions maybe herscreen was misting over. Great burnouts for Kevin and Steve who incidentally still owes Your Reporter a coffee if I recall correctly. 0.9125 to sixty for Kevin, shake and off it. 1.0174 to sixty for Steve, long pedal then back on it for a couple of seconds, 4.1776/146.88 at the eighth.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Steve Ashdown 5.9169/124.90
  2. Kevin Kent 10.5231/67.62

19:50

Word from race officials is that the Pro Stock and Top Fuel Dragster racers elected not to run citing the dewpoint. As things stand we will be seeing Fuel Funny Car and the FIM Europe bike classes.

19:35

FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Maja Udtian towed back to the pits followed by the rest of the Top Fuel field.

19:30

FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Thomas Lindström towed back to the pits whilst Bruno Bader and David Vegter were running, followed shortly afterwards by several of the other Pro Stock racers, their windows noticeably misted over. Stefan Ernryd and Bengt Ljungdahl remained but then returned to the pits themselves.

19:25

FIA Pro Modified qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Jon Webster 7.2390/159.62 bye; Mick Payne shut off, bye; Bert Englefield 6.5040/215.84 bye; Marco Maurischat 6.6567/221.44, Bobby Wallace 6.2863/220.16; Wayne Nicholson broke, Marck Harteveld 6.1059/236.06 bye; Kev Slyfield 9.2567/90.34, Roger Johansson 7.3923/144.84; Andy Robinson 6.0781/236.49, Michel Tooren 6.2124/231.35; Kim Kristiansen 6.2221/235.17, Jan Ericsson 6.4928/222.16; Freddy Fagerström 6.4972/167.36, Håkan Persson 10.9271/93.88; Bruno Bader 6.0959/229.18, David Vegter 6.2582/232.43; Jimmy Ålund broke, Micke Gullqvist 8.4681/119.63

Eurodragster.com sponsor Jon to sixty in 1.1471, the eighth in 4.5333/no speed then smoke in the second half getting thicker with a big puff right on the stripe. Track checked and all OK. Nice burnout for Mick but then shut off on the line for a fluid leak. Good to see our good buddy His Worshipful Flatulence The Very Reverend Sir Nev Mottershead ODE on the line with Bert. Bert to sixty in 1.0617 driving through shake, the Hot Rod heading left, a pedal as the car got close to the centre line, 4.2652/173.66 at the eighth and on the gas all the way through. Eurodragster.com sponsor Marco out of shape in the burnout but kept a hold of it. Marco to sixty in 1.0381 with shake and then a couple of pedals, Bobby in 1.0201 driving through shake and the better eighth 4.0903/178.22, Marco lost time to the shake and pedals, 4.7393/164.72 at the eighth. Wayne did not get reverse after the burnout and drove to the emergency exit. Marck took the bye, to sixty in 0.9982 driving through shake, 4.0114/185.66 at the eighth, slight drift left but pulled it back. Kev rolled through stage goign up on the revs affecting his ET, shake and off the gas before the eighth 4.8702/118.53. Roger to sixty in 1.0200 then shake started to move the Mustang right, a long pedal then got back on it 4.4543/145.73 at the eighth. 300-foot burnout for Eurodragster.com sponsor Andy. Andy to sixty in 0.9951, Michel in 1.0559 with shake, the Cuda turned left. I clearly saw the back end of andy's Camaro bounce about 300 feet out but it seemed not to affect him as he was clearly on one, 4.0015/187.21 at the eighth, 4.0863/181.75 for Michel with lots of vapour from his breather pipe. Kim to sixty in 1.0547 with the car looking to be drifting and the front end skipping due to shake, 1.0905 for Jan also with clear shake marks. 4.1188/182.00 to the eighth for Kim and 4.2945/176.33 for Jan, smoke from Jan's motor in the second half and down the shutdown area. 400-fot burnout for Freddy and rolled to 1000 feet as did Håkan. 1.0469 to sixty for Freddy, no sixty foot time for Håkan but I doubt he'd have seen the sixty foot mark with the shake he has, off the gas before the eighth 5.8039/83.34 and a blip in the second half. 4.1030/179.11 to the eighth for Freddy then off it at 1000 fete and chutes out way before the stripe. 0.9910 to sixty for Bruno, 1.0300 for David, shake for David which he tried to drive through but eventually had to pedal, to the eighth in 4.1419/184.70 already hard back on it. Great 3.9763/184.22 at the eighth for Bruno, Vette moved left but he pulled it back. Jimmy shut off on the line. Micke took the bye, 0.9963 to sixty, terrible shake, two pedals then gave it up passing the eighth 4.8772/119.63.

We will need to do our sums when things are less frenetic but we think that after this qualifying session Micke Gullvist now cannot be caught for the 2017 FIA European Pro Modified Championship so a provisional Grattis to him.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Andy Robinson 6.0781/236.49
  2. Bruno Bader 6.0959/229.18
  3. Marck Harteveld 6.1059/236.06
  4. Michel Tooren 6.2124/231.35
  5. Kim Kristiansen 6.2221/235.17
  6. David Vegter 6.2582/232.43
  7. Bobby Wallace 6.2863/220.16
  8. Jan Ericsson 6.4928/222.16
  9. Freddy Fagerström 6.4972/167.36

  15. Kev Slyfield 9.2567/90.34
  16. Håkan Persson 10.9271/93.88

19:00

FIA Top Methanol qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Rod Harrison 6.0836/239.05, Jürgen Nagel 6.7795/127.73; Jonny Lagg 5.4862/259.65, Sandro Bellio 5.9416/189.72; Dennis Habermann 5.4354/264.07, Timo Habermann 5.4893/259.20

Rod to sixty in 0.9262, Jürgen in 1.0330. Both had shake to contend with, Rod with the longer pedal and J&uumml;rgen's FC moving to the left. Jürgen with the better eighth 3.8785/187.08 to Rod's 4.0122/178.40 but the FC was moving for the line and Jürgen was off the gas and had the chute out at 1000 feet. 0.9504 to sixty for Jonny, 1.0011 for Sandro with mild shake. Jonny's dragster hooked up and went, all eight lit, 3.6525 at the eighth but no speed displayed. Sandro with mild moves about his lane to the eighth in 3.8286/203.03 then off the gas and chutes out past 1000 feet. Great match to close the session! Timo with the better sixty 0.9037 to Dennis' 0.9314, sounded like Timo pedalled, Dennis with the better eighth 3.5935/no speed to Timo's 3.6069/209.52.

  4. Sandro Bellio 5.6816 (5.9416/189.72)
  5. Rod Harrison 6.0836/239.05
  6. Jürgen Nagel 6.5195 (6.7795/127.73)

Comp Eliminator qualifying session 6

Eurodragster.com sponsor Chris Isaacs now in Comp Eliminator for the weekend due to an issue with the turbos. The Pro Mod will be running in AT/PM which has an index of 7.03. Hello to Mark Exley of the company Gravitas HR Solutions who are sponsoring the Isaacs and Tramm Pro Mod this weekend. A couple of pedals for shake for Chris but didn't give it up and in the ladder at the first time of asking. Consistent run for Andy Hone but no improvement. Problems starting for Rob Smallworth, made it round to the bleach box then was pushed back and ultimately towed back to the pits. Hello to Marlen Hurter who is tuned in to follow Rene Meierhofer's progress. Again a consistent run but no improvement.

08:20

Good morning and welcome from Santa Pod Raceway for our coverage of the FIA / FIM European Finals brought to you in association with John Woolfe Racing.

The plan for today is for the usual real-time reports and results, Simon's pit notes updated throughout the day, and a photo gallery at the end of the day courtesy of Julian, Thaliah Gibb and Diana Macrae.

Regular viewers will be familiar with today's webcast routine; the Webster Race Engineering / Nimbus Motorsport webcam will be on-line broadcasting live video and commentary/ Nitro FM audio between the start of qualifying and 19:00, at which point the Trakbak Racing / Track Group Europe free High-Def, multi-camera Web TV will take over for the rest of the event at www.livestream.com/SantaPod/eurofinals2017. Thanks to Doyousee.me for the provision of streaming services.

Three important messages for racers this morning:

  • All racers, from the Race Director: Under no circumstances should golf carts, buggies or bikes be driven through the trading area behind the grandstand on the way to Signing On.

  • FIM Europe Top Fuel Bike, Supertwin, Pro Stock Bike and Super Street Bike racers, from Job Heezen of the FIM Commission: Today's Eurodragster.com News includes a very important about procedures for claiming European records. Please ensure that you read the news item by clicking here and that you follow the rules.

  • Lucas Oil Junior Dragster teams, from Eurodragster.com: We had several instances yesterday of qualifying standings being screenshot and posted on Facebook without the courtesy of an acknowledgement of source, link or share. Your Reporter may be old and grumpy but he found and finds that very rude and inconsiderate. If Junior Dragster results are going to be taken from our reports without any kind of acknowledgement then there will be no Junior Dragster results on our reports to be taken without any kind of acknowledgement. Take it up with the culprits.

We had some rain overnight and so there is a damp track this morning but the track crew were out there early this morning and are making good progress. Right now blue sky is visible in between high cloud.

A big Good Morning to all of the Eurodragsterholics, particularly Kai Plathan and Otto who are tuned in from Finland, and Ivar Kolberg tuned in from Norway, but to all of you a big Thank You for your support. To Claire Meaddows and Julie Willcox a big Thank You for the very nice E-Mails. Thank you also to everyone for their patience yesterday when we lost the servers which host the webcast stream. Maikel at Doyousee.me leapt into action to diagnose the problem and then talk to the data centre. We were pleased that we managed to keep the live report going whilst stuff was flying. Finally to all of the 'holics who are tuned in from the day job, we will do our best to get the news to you quickly but please don't get yourselves fired.

We are due to start at 09:30 with Q6 of Modurstang Pro ET and Gearhead Garage UK Super Pro ET. Pro sessions are due at 10:30 and 14:30 with the exception of Q2s of FIA Top Fuel Dragster and Fuel Funny Car which are included in the Night Session at 19:00. During Pro sessions we will do out best to post between runs so keep hitting Refresh. As things stand the webcast will go on-line at approximately 09:00. Stay tuned and once the wheels start to turn we'll bring you the news.
