Super Pro Dragster racer Peter Walters ran his first six in the car yesterday. After that run, a deal was done between car owner and Eurodragster.com Perfect ET award supported Derek Flynn and Fenny Racing Team to sell the car as turnkey with tuning support from Derek and sponsorship from Peter Walters Race Designs. Aaron Fensome (pictured left) will be licensing at the National Finals. Saskia Fensome Jell, whose last year it is in Junior Dragster, may well be involved in driving duties at some future stage. |
Pro Mod racer Roger Johansson of MSS Motorsports presented on behalf of BDRHoF Benevolent Fund a cheque for �1000 to Magpas, the charity operating the air ambulance that took Roger from Santa Pod Raceway to Addenbrokes Hospital in Cambridge in May 2016. Many thanks to Caroline Holden at Santa Pod Raceway for arranging for the Anglia TV coverage (to be seen on their 6pm show tonight) and contacting Magpas and to fellow trustee Robin Jackson for creating the initiative in Air Ambulance Week.. |
Super Pro ET racer Pel Norman had entered Comp Eliminator but had to change categories. He said 'Our large 632ci engine and light weight means that we would have been in AA/A with an index of 7.56, but the chassis is not all chrome moly and so is tagged to 7.5s so we couldn't race competitively in Comp. We moved to Super Pro and ran a PB of 7.71 yesterday morning'. Pel and team are hoping to do another international trip in 2018, possibly to Malta via Rivanazzano in Italy. |
Comp Eliminator racer from Switzerland René Meierhofer's partner Marlen Hurter was kind enough to alert us to René's racing life in the US. He said 'I spent six weeks over there in 2016 and eight weeks in 2017 and am based at Vero Beach which is an hour's drive from tracks at West Palm Beach and Orlando. I race on a lot of tracks in the area and one of my favourites is Immokolee. The car I have over there is a Dodge Dart with a Jerry Bickel chassis, the same as my Beretta with a bigger engine that I bracket race. I race mainly in the US and only do three races in Europe'. Thomas who started racing thirty years ago, crewed for Bruno Bader and is head of the GoldenVette Club, works with engine builder Thomas Engelage. |
Super Comp racer Paul Hudson, joined by crew Jordan and Conor, had a problem when checking the valve lash revealed a broken valve spring. He said 'Thanks to all those who helped us repair it including Billy Gane for lending us a head spring tool, Werner Zudrell for retapping the threads on it, Paul Marston for giving us a new spring free of charge, and Bob Doignie for putting the new spring in. We found what was wrong and clicked it at 1000ft giving us a 8.97.' Paul had another problem when the fan cowling came off and smashed into the wall. 'We have improvised a replacement fan and could say we are in R&D mode'. |
Super Comp and Super Gas racer Dave Day is out of the event following transmission damage. 'The ring gear on the diff broke which caused the propshaft to break which broke the rear of the gearbox. Part of the diff cover came off on the track and I sidelined the car. My son and crew Elliott was upset because of me sidelining the car and the red transmission fluid. But I'm fine, it's only metal, it hasn't happened at all to us in all the years we've been racing. |
Topspeed Automotive Street Eliminator racer Antony 'Butch' Wilkins is developing his new Morris Minor Traveller and daughter Chloe will be joining Sportsman ET at the National Finals in a Suzuki. 'We celebrated with pink balloons yesterday as it was Chloe's birthday yesterday. We have been sorting out handling problems with the Minor as it was all over the place at the last meeting. I need it to be 30mph faster and a couple of seconds off the ET'. Antony's engine was built by a friend Kim. It is a BBC with a 4/20 Megablower by B&M on low boost and two 850cfm double pumper carbs. The gearbox is a TH400 built by Andy Frost. |

Topspeed Automotive Street Eliminator racer Mark Todd is delighted to have run a best of 7.43 using his new M/T Street SS 295 radials. He said 'I am possibly the quickest car using these tyres which were designed for street use with more tread than some of the drag radials which after litigation in the US, are now only for strip use. I have used these since the start of the season and am getting the most out of them. It's meant a lot of changes to the setup, with a more agressive launch'. Mark is also looking to the championship which he is leading Al Williamson by 840 points and could wrap it up this event. |
Topspeed Automotive Street Eliminator racer Rob Slater has been following the sport since the 1980s, has been attending rwybs for twenty years and had his '57 Chevy for thirteen years. 'I wanted to step up and was inspired by Street Eliminator and so pushed to enter. I have developed the car for the last ten years with upgrades and had the chassis tagged to 8.5s at Hausers three years ago and then installed the twin turbos. Trevor Hirst from Doncaster helped me with the short motor and heads, I got the turbos from Mark Todd and did a lot of the other fabrication myself including the headers and throttle body. I am currently using a XFI2 engine management system but am looking at Fueltech for the future. My PB so far is 9.1, but my first pass was a brake test as they failed at Shakey six weeks ago and the car went into the field'. Lucas Oil Junior Dragster racer Jordan Payne had a successful final qualifying session when a 0.008 RT gave him sixth position. He said 'The car has been running very consistently and in five passes I ran three 8.12s, an 8.14 and 8.15. It's important in qualifying to get consistent ETs which will help in eliminations'. Jordan is as well as doing regular maintenance, building engines for his Junior Dragster. |
Super Gas racer Tayler Letchford is racing in Dad Paul's Brogie Roadster, crewed by Kev Cerasale. Paul is also competing in Super Comp. At the end of Thursday, Tayler had run 9.45, breaking out of the Super Gas index on all four passes he did, which placed him 19th and last. Meanwhile Paul is qualified tenth in Super Comp with 8.969. Qualifying will be complete if no running is possible in today's very wet conditions. |
Super Gas racer Simon Gough has eschewed his usual Super Pro ET class to concentrate on the special purse for Al's Gasser Super Gas Shootout. He qualified fifth after seven test passes on Wednesday for the throttle stop. Prize money posted is �2000 from Jon Giles and double money from SPRC. |
Super Gas racer Ronald Huis from the Netherlands is a regular visitor and he is double classing with Super Comp. He is qualified ninth in Al's Gasser Super Gas Shootout with 9.921/147 and thirteenth in Super Comp with a 8.975/150. |
Super Gas racer Dave Fulton licensed on Wednesday, his first pass showing the car is capable of running Super Comp, although he is keeping Super Gas as his class for this event. He qualified fourteenth with 9.991. Dave has run the El Nino Willys Pickup which used to be in Super Comp and now runs at nostalgia meets. |
Super Gas racer and past class champion Tim Adam has returned with both his cars, the Falcon being driven by Simon Fulton (brother of Dave). Tim ran a best of 10.08 to go seventeenth. |

Newcomer Andy Harrison pipped Brian to no.1 position by 0.0001s which he ran first and in the process won the �100 Eurodragster.com Perfect ET award in support of Bloodwise. |
Super Gas racer Tony Morris, who resides in Florida says he has not raced for some months owing to business commitments. Tony has been helping two carburettor based businesses in Florida and will be with Mike Laws' Get'M Garage full time after this event. Tony qualified sixth with a 9.913. |
