20:30 Nostalgia Funny Car demonstration Wendy Baker no time DQ (bye) Great dry hops up to the line. 1.1831 to sixty feet then the FC headed to the left and took out the 330 foot reflector. Martin Hill followed Wendy with a fantastic 5.9072/271.37 in the Fireforce 3 Jet Funny Car. 4.0527/201.38 at the eighth. 20:20 European Nitro Funny Car Series qualifying session 1 (left lane first) Kevin Kent 8.6832/79.39 bye; Jason Phelps 7.7666/84.42, Gordon Smith 7.9877/81.83 0.9663 to sixty for Kevin, it could have been a trick of the light but from here it looked as if the car was bouncing up and down with shake. Either way Kevin was off the gas about 120 feet out. Gordon back from his burnout before Jason's motor fired, a very brief burnout by Jason and back quickly so as not to keep Gordon waiting. 0.0098 RT by Jason, visible holeshot. 1.0677 to sixty for Jason with shake and a pedal, 0.9962 to Gordon without but then he hit shake past the Tree and pedalled. One more pedal from each and then off the gas, the body language of the TeamRock FC hinted at a broken blower belt. Qualifying after this session:
20:10 FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 2 (left lane first) Urs Erbacher no time DQ, Chris Andrews 3.9795/290.42; Micke Kågered 8.7209/78.55, Stig Neergaard 4.1001/254.28; Thomas Nataas 4.0352/315.51, Duncan Micallef 4.1151/279.45 No Tethys in this session; spare block going in the car after what sounded like carnage earlier. Eurodragster.com sponsor Urs' tyres didn't light on the burnout. He then left before the lights ran, off the gas about 200 feet out and chutes out. 0.8601 to sixty for Chris, 3.1790/263.41 at the eighth, a move towards the centre line but stayed with it and into #1 spot. Quick hold to retrieve both cars from the track. 0.8744 to sixty for Micke, off the throttle by 200 feet. 0.8691 to sixty for Stig, 2.2331 to 330 feet, 3.2173/252.88 at the eighth and off it just past the eighth. Fantastic match between Thomas and Duncan! Thomas visibly away first 0.0818 to Duncan's 0.1192, Thomas had a storming eighth 0.8466 to Duncan's 0.8751, Thomas briefly pedalled and the Andersen Racing car got up and went. 3.2525 at a huge 268.56 at the eighth, Duncan to the eighth in 3.2720/255.71, Duncan's nitro flames starting to turn hard orange towards the stripe so something burning as well as nitro. Thomas does the first half of a European speed record, the fastest 1000-foot speed ever in Europe (again). Well done Thomas, Per, Karsten and team! Gabby McDonald was lined up but was towed back to the pits. Qualifying after this session:

There's a record to be backed up tomorrow or Sunday. Hard right turn by Martin Smith's GTR, kept it in his lane and shiny side up, long trail of fluid on the track. Doesn't look like serious fluid as the Clog has been sent rather than the Berrymans hopper.

Rene Ehrismann up from #35 to #6, which put the bump spot at +0.0511.

Caitlin Wilson next to make a move, up from #20 o #6 at 0.0125. 0.0060 seems to be the RT of choice today since #1 qualifier Morgan Wilson pulled that very RT this time around. Two pairs later side-by-side identical 0.0943 RTs for Shannon Kiddell and Thomas Cook-Abbott.

Two pairs later Scott Gibbons moved up to #2 from #20 at 0.0060, Harley Coulsell having pulled the 0.0060 first stayed #1. Next pair and Morgan Wilson took #1 spot from #14 at 0.0016. Joe Kellett next to make a move, up from #15 to #4 at 0.0140. Billy Everitt moved up from #21 to #10 in the last pair but two. In the final pair Annie Wallace moved up from #17 to #2 at 0.0054.

17:05 Topspeed Automotive Street Eliminator qualifying session 7 Single lane running during clean-up from Paul Hudson's breakage. Big wheelie by Alex McIntosh, looked to come down quite hard and Alex pulled over and stopped just past half track. Track checked and all OK. Next run and Eurodragster.com sponsor Jon Webster was on a stormer but then got off the gas and put the anchors out, pulled over at about 1200 feet. Nothing visibly wrong so I guess Jon felt something break. Next run and a new PB speed for Steve Neimantas, 194.72, well done Steve! 7.8701 improvement and up from #5 to #4 for Martin Smith after an overnight trip to the south coast to repair a turbo. Another improvement for Andy Bond but stayed in place, similar story for Dave Murdoch with a new PB, well done Dave! Damian Halliwell closed the session with a new PB, well done Damien!

13:55 Super Gas qualifying session 6 Huge cloud of smoke from Stu Doignie's motor right on the finish line, stopped on the track and safety crews chased him down. Stu is OK, not so sure about the motor: long and wide trail of fluid from the finish line way into the shutdown area. Clean-up ensued. On the restart a 0.0050 RT by Jon Morton, the wait obviously not a problem for him.

Topspeed Automotive Street Eliminator qualifying session 6 Quicker yet for Dave Murdoch and moved up a place to #6 at that point. Improvements for both Eurodragster.com sponsor Jon Webster and Alex McIntosh, Jon stayed third and Alex moved up to fourth. Hairy run for Steve Neimantas, tyres up in smoke and the Bentley turned left, pedalled and back on it and the car did exactly the same thing just before the eighth-mile only at considerably higher speed.

Big wheelie for Peter Granica, thumped it down and pulled over just past the finish line. Quick hold for retrieval (of the bike, not of Peter's crown jewels). Danny Cockerill getting back after it having had a few problems in testing on Wednesday. Dave Holland off the gas just before the eighth. hesitation for Ven's bike of the line, his right foot came off its peg.

No harm done, restarted. No burnout to speak of, just a dry hop. Surprised crew member had to run back from about 100 feet out. 1.0783 to sixty, 2.8268 at 330 feet, motor was groaning by then and shut off before the eighth. Fil shut off just before staging and signalled Chief Starter Ian Marshall that he was done. Rene took the bye, 1.1622 to sixty, 4.3953/175.75 at the eighth, got vert close to the guardrail in the shutdown area. Good baseline pass. Not obvious what was wrong, not a fluid leak. 0.8868 to sixty for Chris, then shake past the Tree, shut off and both chutes deployed. Car stopped just past the quarter. 0.8752 to sixty for Duncan, 0.8619 for Micke with shake, Micke shut it off. Duncan pedalled about 300 feet out and the car really picked up, 3.2591/259.31 getting close to the guardrail but the Maltese Lion stayed with it all the way. Marshal Caroline and timekeeper Nikki on the start line got a faceful of nitro fumes, both turning away from the cars blinking a lot. 0.8544 to sixty for Stig with tyres shaking, Thomas' tyres up in smoke getting him to sixty in 1.0267 and shut off. Stig pedalled and his tyres spun about 100 feet out, pedalled again and hit shake, the dragster made a move to the right and he shut it off about 330 feet out. Tethys at the end of the session when in the usual way of things one would have expected him to be first out. Very aggressive-sounding burnout. 0.8975 to sixty, nitro flames clearly visible, 2.3405 to 330 feet, smoke before the eighth 3.4328/205.09, off the gas by then and then one blip of the throttle but the car was invisible in the smoke. Meanwhile Norbert's car edged out of stage and one of his crew walked in front of the car with the de-icing spray. Norbert probably expecting to back up and get another go was signalled more than once to go down the track. No reverse and eventually Grumpy shut it off. Dennis deep-staged as the car jumped forward going up on the revs. 0.9547 to sixty feet, shake passing the Tree, a pedal as the dragster turned right and then it really picked up, 3.5768/215.81 at the eighth and real straight in the second half. Fantastic run for Timo! 0.8836 to sixty, looked like a flash of flame from the left bank passing the Tree but nothing untoward obviously, 0.9548 to sixty for Johnny. Timo to the eighth at 3.4879/217.02 to Jonny's 3.6143/216.55, Jonny got our attention in the second eighth as his dragster made a move to the right but he stayed with it. Timo a squeak off the European ET record. Nice match-up between Manty and Chris, solid baseline runs. Chris away first 0.0526 to 0.0903, Manty with the better sixty 0.9221 to Chris' 0.9505, Manty drove through shake all the way to 200 feet but didn't look to lose him any time, 3.5802/211.91 at the eighth to Chris' 3.6547/216.55. 10:20 Super Pro ET qualifying session 6 Paul Marston up from #13 to #5 in the PT Bruiser, in the other lane however quickly they dial in the Giles and Hartley dragster it just goes quicker - 7.437 on a 7.46 dial-in this time. Nice first half for Amanda Cox in the Yenkonova. 0.0037 RT by Joe Stevens next pair. "Simon Gough in left lane shock" in the next pair, made no difference as Simon went +0.0053 in that lane! Superb 0.0018 RT for Steve Saunders a couple of pairs later. Next pair and a nice run to start with for Mark Flavell but at about 1000 feet the car sounded to jump out of gear, revs went up, Flav shut it off. Shari Oomen up from #31 to #18 next pair. At that point you had to be +0.0936 or better on dial-in even to get in to the 32-car field. Fantastic run for Marck Harteveld, 6.9937 on a 7.40 dial-in, new PB for him and also I believe for Wouter van Leersum in the other lane at 7.1334, two breakouts but who cares, well done guys!
