22:35

We have posted Ed's second set of pit notes, which you can view via the Event Index page. Your reporter would like to say a big Thank You to Ed for standing in as pit reporter as well as photographing today, and to Roger for standing outside braving very cold conditions all day to bring you pictures. These guys went above and beyond today so please join Tog in a big Thank You to them both.

We'll be back in the morning with all the news from day three of the FIA Main Event.

21:35

Today's pictures have now been posted and can be checked out via the Event Index. There are 115 pictures in all; if you do not see all 115 updated thumbnails when you load the gallery page then click on your Browser's Refresh button.

Stay tuned as Ed is working on today's second tranche of pit notes; we'll post an update here when those have been posted.

19:40

Martin Hill closed the day with a 5.9328/268.18 in the Fireforce 3 Jet FC.

We're now going to work on today's pictures, and Ed has another tranche of pit notes for you. Stay tuned for an update about those. We will leave the webcam running for a while but it will be switched off eventually and most likely without warning; you can stay with the Nitro FM audio-only stream via our Event Index page.

Super Street qualifying after session 6

Great to see John Grant back on track with a new windscreen on the 100E and the door panels replaced after yesterday's problem (see yesterday's pit notes). Drama for Chris Kenny as his Pop suddenly veered across the track just past the finish line, from here it looked like a close thing with Halvor Overby in the other lane. Chris got a hold on it and got it back into his lane.

FIA Pro Modified qualifying session 2 (left lane first)

Wayne Nicholson 6.7160/210.87 bye; Marcus Hilt 9.5861/164.27 bye; Nick Davies 21.6503/53.77, Robert Joosten 8.4113/112.22; Robert Koper 17.0984/63.43, Bert Englefield no time; Marc Meihuizen 10.9900/77.87 bye, David Vegter shut off; Mats Eriksson 8.0847/130.16, Marco Maurischat 6.7396/217.98; Linda Thun Tønseth 8.7623/96.31, Graham Ellis 6.8237/196.31; Roger Moore 10.6952/79.24, Bruno Bader 6.1165/226.75; Adam Flamholc 6.3039/227.00, Urban Johansson 6.5658/210.92; Johan Lindberg 6.2359/221.44, Micke Gullqvist 6.1462/232.44; Andy Robinson 6.1524/229.32, Per Svedberg 6.9406/151.11

Great run for Wayne. 0.089 RT, 1.051 to sixty, 4.363/165.31 to the eighth and at that point safely in the ladder. Marcus went about twenty feet and his tyres shook, 1.433 to sixty feet and a couple of pedals but to no avail, feathered the throttle down the track. 0.078 RT for Robert J, 0.9947 sixty foot time, driving through shake but then the 1970½ Camaro made a hard move to the right and he shut it off. 1.1505 to sixty for Nick and shake, off the throttle by the Tree. Red lit in Bert's lane just as Chief Starter Ian Marshall pushed the button, red light and no time. Huge shake for Robert K, 2.131 sixty foot time shows you just how bad it was. 0.990 to sixty for Marc, front wheels up and rear tyres started to shake, the car made a violent move and Robert got off the throttle. Neither Mats nor Eurodragster.com sponsor Marco were getting off it for anything in the next pair. Huge shake for Mats but he just kept pedalling, I swear he had three wheels off more than once. 1.134 to sixty, 4.792/142.00 at the eighth, the car getting very close to the guardrail but Mats was off it and on it but eventually shut off. 1.002 to sixty for Marco, then shake and the Vette made a move to the rail as Marco tried to drive through it. A pedal, 4.415/161.14 at the eighth and on the throttle to the stripe. Nice run for Linda, I suspect a planned short pass going a bit further every time. 1.024 to sixty, a cylinder out on the right side, off the throttle by the eighth 4.612/119.39. 1.015 to sixty for Eurodragster.com sponsor Graham, driving through shake, 4.418/158.79 at the eighth but stayed with it most of the way then shut off past 1200 feet. An improvement for Graham but stayed in place. Stormer for Bruno after his earlier DQ. 0.9929 at sixty, our first three-second eighth of the weekend at 3.980/183.93, into #1 spot. Roger tried to drive through shake after sixty 1.065 but had to give up at half track. 0.986 to sixty for Adam and 1.034 for Urban, Adam drove through shake and got to the eighth in 4.133/175.60, getting close to the centre line in the second half. Urban also drove through shake, 4.256/167.57 at the eighth. 0.984 to sixty for Micke, 1.019 for Johan, both cars moving around their lanes, 4.077/180.52 at the eighth for Johan and 4.032/182.44 for Micke. Micke up to #2, Johan stayed in place. 0.9942 to sixty for Per, 1.001 for Eurodragster.com sponsor Andy. Per tried to drive through shake, the Demon moving left and right, a pedal, 4.103/168.83 at the eighth. 4.018/183.39 to the eighth for Andy and one place up the ladder.

FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 2 (left lane first)

Dave Wilson 5.4727/268.76 bye; Oliver Azzopardi shut off (bye); Timo Habermann 5.4216/258.18, Fred Hanssen 5.4684/262.18; Paul Ingar Udtian 5.5383/253.81, Krister Johansson 5.5465/257.70; Derek Flynn 5.5609/248.24, Dennis Habermann 5.5154/254.73

Excellent run for Grumpy to take #1 spot when he had been propping up the field. 1.009 to sixty feet, 3.693 at a humungous 221.35 mph at the eighth, some smoke from the motor in the traps but no consternation from the track crew. Great 100-foot burnout from Oliver but shut off back in the staging area for a fluid leak. Grudge match of the weekend next as Timo went up against Fred Hanssen, tuned by Will Hanna who was involved in the off-season entertainment. Timo away first 0.092 to 0.216, 0.903 to sixty for Timo to Fred's 0.980. Timo had the better eighth ET 3.533/210.81 and Fred the higher eighth speed 3.626/213.43. Timo into #1 and Fred into #2. Great side-by-side with Paul Ingar and Krister. Krister deep-staged, 0.090 RT to Paul Ingar's 0.064. Paul Ingar had the better sixty foot time 0.954 to 1.001, 3.627/207.04 at the eighth for Paul Ingar and 3.700/215.47 for Krister. Paul Ingar up the ladder, Krister stayed in place. Dennis visibly moved first, 0.137 to Eurodragster.com sponsor Derek's 0.249. 0.912 to sixty for Dennis and 1.010 for Derek, Derek had the higher speed at the eighth 3.713/217.94 to Dennis' quicker ET at the eighth 3.599/204.84. Great runs for both but no improvement.

FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 2 (left lane first)

Danny Bellio 5.9059/236.52, Ulf Leanders 5.6370/249.19; Jarmo Kuutniemi 5.8985/239.04, Rob Turner 7.0425/170.41; Steph Milam 6.3048/224.74, Arvid Grødem 5.8540/242.37

200-foot burnout from Danny, evil twitch as he got off it. Stormer from Ulf! 0.930 to sixty feet, 3.685/200.30 at the eighth. #1 spot and the first half of a new European ET record, well done Ulf! 0.9922 to sixty for Danny, car made a move for the centre line but he stayed on it, 3.868/192.88 at the eighth and into #2 spot. Nice run for Jarmo, good for #2, 1.010 to sixty, 3.880/194.53 at half track. 0.092 RT for Rob but relatively slow 1.210 to sixty, car looked to be labouring some, 4.472/157.14 at the eighth. Straight, storming run for Arvid, 1.018 to sixty, 3.840/196.73 to the eighth, back into the fives and up to #2 spot. 1.142 to sixty for Steph, 4.159/183.63 at the eighth. It sounded as if one of the cars got a bit of a bounce on in the shutdown area but both stopped safely.

FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 2 (left lane first)

Anita Mäkelä 8.5843/89.26 bye; Micke Kågered 5.1411/214.11 bye; Urs Erbacher 4.7220/284.13, Timo Lehtimäki 5.7733/171.07; Tommy Johnson Jr 5.2168/193.05, Andy Carter 6.3998/177.82

Idle very high on Anita's car after the burnout, crew sprinted to assist and sorted it out but a long time before Anita started back maybe ruling out a full pass. 0.882 to sixty feet but then the motor note started to rise but the car wasn't accelerating, driving through the clutch I guess. 4.129/122.39 at the eighth. 0.9195 to sixty for Micke, green tinge to the flames, 3.304/253.50 at the eighth and then looked like the blower belt came off just past the eighth - he was on one until he got off the pedal. Stormer for Eurodragster.com sponsor Urs, 0.879 to sixty, 3.189/263.82 at the eighth and looked to get off the throttle just past 1000 feet. 0.895 to sixty for Timo, drove through shake, 3.498/227.39 at the eighth and off the throttle. Oil in the shutdown area so we had a stop for clean-up.

Final pair for this session Tommy v Andy, Andersen Racing and Andy former team-mates. Andy away first 0.129 to 0.145 and looked like a cylinder out, the incrementals all in Tommy's favour after the launch: 0.851 to sixty to Andy's 1.145, 3.191/250.78 at the eighth to Andy's 4.157/196.72. A flash from Tommy's motor at about 1000 feet, chutes out, maybe the burst panel and the auto shut-off. Andy up to #8.

Jonas Dantanus 7.5983/156.84 bye; Michael Malmgren 6.7489/204.40 bye; Micke Callin 6.9105/200.77, Sampsa Palos 6.7891/203.36; Richard Sundblom 6.8688/201.67, Tommy Leindahl 6.8133/200.65; Conrad Stanley 6.9179/199.88, Jimmy Ålund 6.7503/205.18; Jan Palmqvist 6.8532/200.64 bye

A big hello to PS driver Magnus Hansson who is tuned in to the coverage, don't think he's enjoying it much but only from the point of view that he'd rather be here. We wish you were here too Magnus.

0.097 RT for Jonas, 1.011 to sixty but sounded as if there was a problem changing gears. Jonas was on and off the throttle and shut it off for good in the second half. Jan didn't make the bleach box, the car sat at the front of the pairing lanes with the front off. Very fast back-up from his burnout for Michael - in fact I was thinking "Freddy Fagerström" and actually typed that instead of "Michael Malmgren" above. Fantastic run, 1.008 to sixty, small amount of shake which Michael drove through, car moved around a bit after 300 feet but Michael had it covered, 4.341/161.80 at the eighth and into #1 spot. New Personal Best and #2 spot for Sampsa, 1.010 to sixty, 4.364/161.06 at the eighth, nice run. 1.018 to sixty for Micke, 4,451/158.85 to the eighth and up three spots. Great match between Richard and Tommy with the incrementals in Tommy's favour, 0.994 to sixty to 1.036 and 4.366/160.43 at the eighth to 4.433/160.03, both up the ladder. Conrad got the jump on Jimmy 0.086 to 0.136, Jimmy had the better sixty foot time 1.009 to 1.017, 4.535/161.64 to the eighth for Jimmy and 4,448/157.79 for Conrad. Jimmy up to second, Conrad stayed in place. Jan allowed to run at the end of the session. 1.022 to sixty, 4.403/159.46 to the eighth and up the ladder.

UEM Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 2 (left lane first)

Steve Woollatt 12.4006/54.61 bye; Kev Charman 7.1153/198.99 bye, Petri Paljakka shut off; Ian King 7.5494/124.46, Steve Carey 7.4843/164.28

Shake for Steve W after 1.082 sixty, something came off the bike a little way down the track. Superb, 100-foot drifting burnout for Perti, very nicely controlled. Very tear-gassy up here in Race Control after Petri's burnout too. Petri was signalled to shut off on the way back from his burnout. 1.167 to sixty for Kev, the bike looked to squat down and went straight down the middle of the lane, 4.686/160.74 at the eighth, nice run and into #1 spot at that point. Steve C got a big jump on Ian and had the better sixty foot time 1.048 to 1.147 but then you could see Ian's bike pick up and go, Ian had the much better eighth 4.311/159.66 to Steve's 4.556/144.84. Ian's bike got closer and closer to the wall and he eventually had to shut it off to bring it back. I don't think Ian quite made the end of the track as we had a hold to clear his bike from the top end.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Kev Charman 7.1153/198.99
  2. Ian King 7.4736/210.92
  3. Steve Carey 7.4843/164.28
  4. Steve Woollatt 8.6924/93.11

UEM Supertwin qualifying session 2 (left lane first)

Greger Johansson 8.0571/152.08 bye; Samu Kemppainen 24.6042/48.25 bye; Jan Sturla Hegre 7.1260/170.43, Martijn de Haas 8.9376/152.64; Svein Olaf Rolfstad 8.2702/119.17 bye, Chris Hanam shut off; Per Bengtsson 7.0144/182.87, Trond Høiberget 7.4167/157.95; Christian Jäger 9.1346/131.29, Roel Koedam 7.1972/169.82; Job Heezen 14.3695/66.13, Lorenz Stäuble 6.8374/212.88;

1.164 to sixty for Greger, then the motor stopped dead for a moment when the front wheel came down at about 300 feet. Back on the throttle, 5.006/129.80 at the eighth and went through pretty much to the stripe. Instant tyre spin at the hit for Samu, off the throttle and idled through. Much better run for Jan Sturla, 1.144 to sixty and 4.550/159.04 at the eighth, right down the middle of his lane. Martijn's bike sounded to be labouring with vapour from one exhaust, maybe a cylinder out, 1.523 to sixty and 5.859/127.74 at the eighth. Cannon shut off after the burnout, meanwhile a fluid check on Svein Olaf's bike but all OK. 1.305 to sixty feet but very close to the guardrail at the eighth, 4.878/153.12. Long, slow burnout by Trond, on the verge of showing off! Per got to sixty in 1.180 but then looked to overpower the track, 4.602/167.28 at the eighth. Trond got to sixty in 1.205, good-looking run to begin with, 4.6882/155.74 at the eighth then just looked to run out of puff at the top end. Quick sweep of Trond's lane before the next pair. Small burnout for Christian and almost in the red refuge on the left side of the lane as he came out of it. Impressive riding job by Roel, 1.165 to sixty and riding through shake, shake sorted the rear tyre started to smoke. 4.692/166.07 at the eighth and shut off towards the stripe. Christian's bike looked to be down on power, 1.468 to sixty and 5.874/129.04 at the eighth, shut off in the second half. Great run to begin with for Job, 1.1623 to sixty to Lo's 1.191, then the rear tyre started to shake and there was a bang and the motor stopped as the front came down. 4.548/192.81 to the eighth for Lo, I am guessing the front wheel came down in the eighth-mile traps since good as Lo is that is far too big a half-track speed for a Supertwin.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Lorenz Stäuble 6.6824/123.07
  2. Per Bengtsson 7.0144/182.87
  3. Jan Sturla Hegre 7.1260/170.43

  10. Joachim Riemer 8.4014/164.26
  11. Chris Hannam 8.6330/97.75

UEM Pro Stock Bike qualifying session 2 (left lane first)

Jesper Thiel 7.2518/174.39, Len Paget 7.7443/167.92; Elvira Karlsson no time, Gert-Jan Laseur 8.7028/106.68; Chris Stebbings 8.1574/137.74, Kalle Lyrén 7.7134/143.93; Karl-Heinz Weikum no time DQ, Mark Smith 8.0576/146.70; Martin Bishop 7.5765/175.07, Rasmus Olesen 7.4288/173.71; Ray Debben 10.1688/89.98, Fredrik Fredlund 10.2675/76.72;

Great run for Jesper. 1.090 to sixty, 4,588/151.95 at the eighth, pretty straight run and straight into #1. Good baseline for Len, 1.197 to sixty and 4.887/141.22 at the eighth. Elvira revved the motor a number of times in stage but wasn't happy with something, stopped revving then the lights ran the bike moved a few feet and stopped. 1.152 to sixty for Gert-Jan then it sounded as if he had trouble getting a gear and he shut it off. 0.023 Rt for kalle, 1.173 to sixty and 4.781/145.69 at the eighth. 1.359 to sixty for Chris, 5.114/141.14 at the eighth and shut it off. 1.199 to sixty for Karl-Heinz but his bike was determined to go to the right so he shut it off and rode it into the right lane. Mark was well in front by then, 1.152 to sixty and 4,963/135.73 at the eighth. Clean pair of runs for Martin and Rasmus, 1.096 to sixty for Rasmus and 1.137 for Martin. 4.671.146,59 at the eighth for Rasmus, 4.819/140.26 for Martin, consistent run for Rasmus and a long way round whilst Martin climbed a couple of places up the ladder. 1.127 to sixty for Fredrik but shut off before the eighth, 1.189 to sixty for Ray, then some hesitation from the motor and shut off.

Qualifying after this session:

Fuel Funny Car session 1

Gordon Smith 5.8578/189.01 bye

Nice pass for Gordon. 0.9967 to sixty feet, 3.718/225.80 at the eighth and off it at about 1000 feet.

Martin Hill followed with a 5.9636/260.43 in the Fireforce 3 Jet Funny Car, great run. 4.0833/200.49 at the eighth. Next up was Eric Teboul on his Rocket Bike, fantastic run into this breeze, 5.4490/230.16. 3.5616/219.98 at the eighth.

15:25

FIA Pro Modified qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Nick Davies 26.2630/37.16 bye; Per Svedberg 6.1609/229.31, Robert Koper 15.5031/64.67; David Vegter 9.1070/105.26, Linda Thun Tønseth 8.0327/110.57; Wayne Nicholson no time, Roger Moore 6.7344/204.25; Bert Englefield 11.2224/65.83, Jean Dulamon 8.5993/141.73; Marcus Hilt 14.7007/68.12, Henri Joosten no time

Robert Joosten 13.7697/67.82, Marc Meihuizen 8.6857/106.91; Graham Ellis 7.9848/117.96, Norbert Kuno 10.8129/65.61; Marco Maurischat 8.3306/115.54, Andy Robinson 6.2100/228.86; Bruno Bader 6.5136/207.14, Mats Eriksson 8.4933/111.16; Urban Johansson 6.4242/217.19, Adam Flamholc 6.6472/218.98; Micke Gullqvist 6.3386/219.28, Johan Lindberg 6.2622/227.90

Nick and Rob Loaring planning to go to the top of one gear each run so to the top of first this run, the second next run, and so on. 1.1505 to sixty feet on this run, bad shake and off the throttle passing the Tree. Instant shale for Robert, 1.284 to sixty and shut it off. Fantastic run for Per blowing away his Personal Best, 1.0245 to sixty feet, 4.039/182.01 to the eighth, not totally straight either so more to come there. Tentative burnouts for both David and Linda, David's first run in the rebuilt car and Linda's second run in this car. 1.0989 to sixty for Linda and on and off the throttle all the way, 4.564/147.09 to the eighth and shut off and chutes out in the second half. 1.739 to sixty for David, pedal then feathering the throttle all the way down and stopped on the shutdown area. Wayne's tyres didn't light in the burnout, this doesn't always harm although I am guessing that the track is pretty cold. Wayne lost drive at the hit, 1.082 to sixty for Roger, 4.352/172.04 at the eighth, a gentle move towards the rail but Roger stayed with it. Similar story for Jean, no smoke in the burnout. Instant shake for Bert, off the throttle then back on and a chute deployed. Sounded like a big misfire for Jean, 1.483 to sixty with flame from the exhausts at every gear change, 5.582/144.88 at the eighth then a flash of flame and smoke at about 1000 feet. Marcus Hilt has Camp Stanley tuning this weekend; Camp came to visit our office on Thursday and had us laughing with an endless stream of banter and jokes some of which we can't repeat. Massive nitrous burp from Henri's Chevy, a monumental explosion blowing the scoop to pieces, then fire took hold of the car fed by the fuel system. Henri was out of the car in double quick time; boy were the safety crew there quickly and boy were they brave as they fought the fire at close quarters with a clearly-audible hissing from the bottles. Henri is quite OK, had a quick check over by the medical crew. The same can't be said for the Chevy whose body is badly melted. Instant tyre smoke for Marcus, 1.742 to sixty by which time he had already shut off.

The track crew then had to scrape and sled the area where Henri's car stopped. Big burnout by Marc, all the way out to about 200 feet. Huge shake for Robert, shook the passenger side door open, 1.256 to sixty and off the throttle. 1.032 to sixty for Marc then bad shake which he tried to drive through, the car making violent moves left and right, Marc called it a day about 400 feet out after almost hitting the 330 foot reflector. Drifting burnout for Eurodragster.com sponsor Graham which he called off as the car made a move to the right, 100-foot burnout for Norbert. 1.035 to sixty for Graham, good-looking pass to begin with then the Cuda made a move to the right and Graham got off the throttle after the eighth 4.418/135.55. 1.044 to sixty for Norbert and then shake and a move to the left, shut off before the eighth. Two more Eurodragster.com sponsors next pair, long burnout from Marco. 0.062 to 0.078 RTs in Andy's favour and the better sixty foot time, 1.026 to 1.122. Andy drove through shake, to the eighth in 4.058/179.62, Marco had had to pedal and got to the eighth in 4.676/134.46, off the throttle in the second half. A big Hello and hugs to Lena Perés tuned in from Sweden, wish you were here Lena. 1.059 to sixty for Mats and then bad shake which he tried his best to drive through and then shut off before the eighth. 1.086 to sixty for Bruno, then the car's acceleration looked to flatten out for a moment but he got to the eighth in 4.229/170.30, shut off just before the stripe. Bruno's run subsequently DQ's for a Blue Line violation. Nice side-by-side passes by Urban and Adam, Urban with the quicker sixty 1.015 to 1.031, both having to drive through shake and both stayed with it, 4.139/168.39 to the eighth for Urban and 4.334/167.01 for Adam. 0.078 RT from Johan, 1.046 to sixty driving through shake. Storming 0.9636 to sixty for Micke, 4.077/171.54 at the eight and driving job of the day as the Camaro started to get into a pendulum effect swinging left and right but Micke held onto it, fantastic job.

FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Monty Bugeja 5.5007/263.52 bye; Oliver Azzopardi shut off (bye); Paul Ingar Udtian 5.6215/249.17 bye; Krister Johansson 5.5923/256.68, Dave Wilson 5.7770/257.59; Fred Hanssen 5.6107/256.53, Derek Flynn 5.5431/263.61; Dennis Habermann 5.5089/253.80, Timo Habermann 5.6455/247.68

Great to see the hugely-popular Mr Whippy team back here at Santa Pod, welcome back to Joe, Monty and the guys! What a fantastic run straight off the trailer! 0.9975 to sixty feet, 3.645/214.84 at the eighth, and that was the long way round as the car headed for the guardrail at the eighth. Monty was going to stay on that one so long as it felt OK, felt OK all the way to the top end I guess. Great opener and well done to Gittli Koller and Charlie Draper who are providing tuning input. Our other very welcome Maltese visitor Oliver shut off after his burnout for a fluid leak, a quick clean-up ensued. Oliver has US tuner Randy Anderson working on his team this weekend, not Randy's first visit. Nice opener for Paul Ingar, 0.9595 to sixty feet, car made a move to the right but he stayed with it, 3.668/202.11 at the eighth, sounded as if the burst panel blew just before the stripe, puff of smoke from the headers at the same time. Two of Europe's longest-standing exponents of drag racing, let alone just Top Methanol, in the next pair. Drifting burnout from Grumpy, held on to the Silverline/Playstation car very well. Krister got the jump and had the quicker sixty foot time 1.008 to a relatively gently 1.071 and was pulling away over the first eighth, got there 3.719/212.80 to Grumpy's 3.932/211.45. Flash of flame from Krister's motor at about 1200 feet. Our first look at Fred's new bodywork and colour scheme, very nice too, and tuner Will Hanna likely wanting to make a point after the off-season shenanigans. 0.9549 to sixty for Fred, 1.058 for Eurodragster.com sponsor Derek. Straight to the eighth for both, 3.693/204.22 for Fred and 3,731 at a huge 218.62 for Derek. The Gold RV rail moved around some in the second half but Derek stayed with it, Fred there first by 0.1924. Great side-by-side run for Timo and Dennis. 0.052 RT for Dennis, 0.068 for Timo, 0.914 to sixty for Dennis to Timo's 0.9411. Dennis had the better eighth 3.590/206.08 to 3.674/197.61, Timo's dragster was moving around in the second eighth and it looked like he shut off just a touch early. 0.1527 between them at the stripe.

Steph carrying Direct Plastics decals after Paul Woodhead of the Eurodragster.com sponsor did the She Devil team a deal to replace the windscreen broken at Easter, nice one Paul! Great to see the Leanders Brothers back in European competition. Great run for Ulf to begin with, 0.9743 to sixty feet, driving through shake, 4.141/143.26 at the eighth with the car bouncing up and down, a pedal and then off the throttle as the FC started to make violent moves left and right in the eighth-mile speed trap. 1.119 to sixty for Steph, small shake marks 300 feet out but Steph stayed with it all the way, 4.117/182.67 at the eighth and the team very happy with that as a baseline pass. 1.0225 for Eurodragster.com sponsor Dez, nice 4.080/182.65 at the eighth with the car bouncing some in the middle, 0.969 to sixty for Jarmo and then shake bad enough to put one of the chutes out, drove with the chute for a couple of hundred feet then shut off. Danny left when Rob's stage bulb lit so no time for him. 1.015 to sixty for Rob, 4.246/155.70 at the eighth, gentle-looking pass and shut off the the second half. 0.9811 to sixty for Jürgen, 1.1418 for Arvid, then a couple of gentle-looking runs almost as if both were driving through the clutch. 4.113/149.85 to the eighth for Jürgen and 4,359/166.56 for Arvid.

FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Tommy Johnson Jr 5.0332/207.02 bye; Lex Joon 6.0792/150.56, Jari Halinen 5.5679/192.14; Timo Lehtimäki no time, Micke Kågered 8.1650/98.99; Andy Carter 8.7970/105.77, Anita Mäkelä 8.6086/114.79; Risto Poutiainen 4.8392/249.61, Urs Erbacher 5.1952/263.74

Nicely controlled burnout by TJ. 0.871 to sixty feet, 3.162/266.36 at the eighth, off the throttle at about 1000 feet, from the car's behaviour it looked as if the blower belt broke. Great start for our photographic equipment sponsors Landmeco and Andersen Racing, and a good introduction to European drag racing for TJ. Eurodragster.com Blogger Lex next up against Jari. 0.935 to sixty for Jari and 0.940 for Lex, Jari drove through shake. Flames started to appear from Lex's motor about 300 feet out as Jari's car went for the centre line but he stayed with it. 3.519/133.23 at the eighth for Jari having pulled the dragster away from the centre line and stayed with it. 3.489/210.02 at the eighth for Lex with more smoke and flame and then a big flash right on the eighth. Smoke from Jari's motor in the second half and off the throttle. Great driving job by Jari though, the tyre marks about a foot from the 330-foot reflector. Both lanes checked and found to be OK. Timo couldn't get reverse after his burnout and had to drive off the end of the track. This held Micke up for a few moments, would he risk a full pass for the extra fuel used? Academic anyway, looked like a planned 300 feet pass. 0.962 to sixty feet and off the throttle at 300 (feet, not mph). First competitive pass for the Lucas Oil Team West-Tec operation. Very gentle launch from Andy, 1.223 to sixty feet with a cylinder out, off it about 250 feet out. 0.879 to sixty for Anita then shake passing the tree and shut it off. 0.865 to sixty for Risto, 0.873 for Eurodragster.com sponsor Urs. Urs hit shake and pedalled it easily for a second, 3.217/257.94 at the eighth for Risto, 3.475/232.04 at the eighth for Urs. Smoke from Risto's car at about 1000 feet and off the throttle, 300.75 mph at 1000 feet. Urs off it about 900 feet out.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Risto Poutiainen 4.8392/249.61
  2. Tommy Johnson Jr 5.0332/207.02
  3. Urs Erbacher 5.1952/263.74
  4. Jari Halinen 5.5679/192.14
  5. Lex Joon 6.0792/150.56
  6. Micke Kågered 8.1650/98.99

Great burnout by Conrad, all the way out to 100 feet. Great start to his weekend, too. 0.067 RT, 1.017 to sixty feet, 4.438/157.79 at the eighth, sounded like a slight hesitation from the motor at the eighth so more to come there. Out-of-shape burnout for Jonas. 0.094 RT for Sampsa, 1.024 to sixty feet. Jonas hit shake, 1.248 to sixty feet then a couple of pedals. 4.419/158.90 at the eighth for Sampsa. Storming 0.988 sixty foot time for Tommy after a -0.096 red, 4.406/157.88 at the eighth. 1.078 to sixty for Richard then the motor started to smoke but Richard stayed with it, 4.689 at the eighth shows something wasn't right, smoke continued but nothing on the track. No-one ever leaves on Jimmy, apart from Micke who strapped a 0.050 to 0.140 holeshot on him. 1.026 to sixty for Jimmy, 4.404/160.60 to the eighth, nice straight run. 1.099 to sixty for Micke, 4.6944/157.77 at the eighth as the car got very close indeed to the centre line, shut off and chutes out before the stripe. Michael drove through appalling shake, stayed with it, 1.254 to sixty, 1.032 to sixty for sixty for Jan, 4.449/156.64 to the eighth. 4.862/157.95 at the eighth for Michael, both shut off and put chutes out before the stripe.

Shawn Rodman's bike was here but didn't make the bleach box. What headwind" said Lo, storming run. 1.177 to sixty feet, front wheel high in the air to the eighth 4.425/175.54. 1.738 to sixty for Samu and then a bang and the motor stopped. Samu pulled over to the guardrail at about 500 feet. 1.097 to sixty for Roel, 1.326 for Christian, Roel hit shake and feathered the throttle, 4.696/164.25 at the eighth, 4.907/161.33 for Christian then the Black Seven made a hard move towards the centre line. Christian stayed with it almost to the stripe and then pulled it back. Hans Olav shut off almost immediately, 2.160 to sixty feet, then pulled over and stopped about 350 feet out. 1.110 to sixty for Jan Sturla, but off it well before the eighth 5.002/105.19. Shawn Rodman then started up his bike, into the burnout and then an almighty bang which probably got his attention.

Super Pro ET qualifying after session 6

The headwind obviously suited John Bradshaw's Nissan, its straightest run so far this weekend. Stayed in #17 though. You have to bet these guys know all about it when they release the chutes. 0.005 RT by Dave Ward and in the other lane Eurodragster.com sponsor Pete Walters managed to break out, grounds for congratulation in this breeze! Thomas Stiefel with a 7.00 dial-in on his big Chevy which is pretty much a Pro Mod save for the 420 ci motor 7.124 and up from #24 to #14 on his second or third run in the car, well done Thomas! Ron Bartlett next to make a big move, #17 to #8 from the little Anglia. Next pair and a couple of big moves, #31 to #22 for Rod Harrison and a huge jump for Chris Orthodoxou, #24 to #4. Just like I said, these guys know what they're doing even in these conditions. Nick Good up from #26 to #16, looked from here as if the dragster rolled the beams slightly so more to come there. Al Didwell closed the session with a big move from #26 to #13.

Next up is today's first Pro session.

Pro ET qualifying after session 6

We have a vicious headwind here, will be interesting to see how this affects performances against dial-in. The answer is not much, these guys know what they are doing; Rick McCann moved up a place to #12, Simon Gough moved up from #34 to #30 and Deborah Laugher and Billy Gane even managed to break out.

Word from the Race Director is that we start at 10:00 with Pro ET, who have just been called to the pairing lanes.

8:00

Good morning and welcome to our coverage of the FIA Main Event brought to you in association with Alamo Rent-A-Car.

The Webster Race Engineering/Nimbus Motorsport webcam is on-line and will be broadcasting live video and commentary/Nitro FM audio as long as the track is open.

We had rain earlier this morning and there is a stiff breeze, and right now the track crew are out doing their stuff. The racing surface already looks quite dry but as ever it's the shutdown area which needs attention.

Word came overnight that we have lost Dave Beck (Pro Stock Bike) and Esko Raisvuo (Top Methanol Dragster). Andy Frost (Pro Modified) also has suffered engine damage, and as some of you noticed we lost Stig and Kenny Neergaard from Top Fuel a couple of days ago; this was due to illness. Get well soon Stig and Kenny, we're thinking of you and we wish you were both here.

We are due to start at 9:00 with Sportsman qualifying cycle 6 and today's two Pro sessions are scheduled for 10:30 and 14:30. Stay tuned and we'll keep you informed.
