18:05 Nostalgia Fuel Altered Association session 2 (left lane first): Joe Bond shut off, Paul Wratten 9.6560/108.98 bye; Gary Page 15.1496/69.43 bye; Bob Glassup no time (bye) Joe shut off after the burnout. Paul hit shake and tried to drive through it, then pedalled and got back on it, the altered making hard moves left and right - timekeeper Sharon Norris called out "Stay away from my sponges thank you very much" loud enough to be transmitted on the PA - Paul followed Sharon's instructions but stayed with it until there was a huge cloud of smoke from the left bank at half track. Gary's burnout probably qualified as a drift, then the tyres went up in smoke at the hit. 200-foot and perfectly straight burnout for Bob, but then no reverse so track crew Bob Day signalled him to continue down the track. 17:55 MSA Pro Modified qualifying session 2 (left lane first): Ray White asked us to say a big Hello to team member Steve Dowler who is at home recovering from a hospital stay. Hello from us too Steve. Jean Dulamon 8.5747/141.58 bye (observed run); Ray White shut off (bye); Andy Robinson 8.8590/106.54, Graham Ellis 7.7709/192.13; Bert Englefield 7.0965/210.04, Kev Slyfield 17.9074/55.21 Jean's first ever run in the ex-Vinny Budano nitrous car. Two goes at the burnout, the second burnout was very capable. This run scheduled for a launch so far as we knew, but from here it looked like a no-nitrous full pass, aka a Maltese Sixty Foot. Then we had a hold for rain. Ray White stayed strapped into his car for the best part of an hour, but he told us earlier than the team had found the source of their long-standing problem with leaks from the motor...no sooner did I type that than Ray was shut off for the breather dropped fluid onto the track. Nice 0.0207 RT for Eurodragster.com sponsor Graham but instant shake at the hit, Graham pedalled and got back on it. 1.0980 to sixty feet for Andy, 4.7904/128.68 at half track, 5.1169/135.75 at half track for Graham and he overhauled Andy at the top end, Andy shut off at about 1000 feet. Nice 0.0665 RT for Bert then shake, Bert pedalled and off he went, 4.6996/160.11 at half track and staying on it all the way. Kev was off the throttle at the Tree.

16:55 Top Methanol qualifying session 2 (left lane first): Trackside conditions at the start of this session were 10.9 C, 49% humidity and 29.15 inches of air. Timo Habermann 6.4334/156.34, Esko Raisvuo 13.1794/72.65; Dennis Habermann no time DQ, Steph Milam no time Esko's tyres up in smoke at the hit and that was the end of his participation although he gave it one more stab. 0.9569 to sixty feet for Timo, 3.7280/175.61 at half track by which time his blower burst panel had blown. Dennis rolled through stage when he went up on the revs but a crew member had committed a blue line violation anyway. After rolling through stage Dennis sat for a moment then hit the throttle, a very nice-looking run too. Steph's tyres went up in smoke and from here it looked as if there was a flash of flame, Steph pedalled and hit it again but was off the throttle at 300 feet and rolled to a halt at 1000 feet.

16:35 Pro Fuel Shootout qualifying session 1 (left lane first): Jari Halinen 7.9651/90.68 bye; Gordon Smith 5.4772/246.37 bye; Janne Ahonen 5.2713/218.14, Risto Poutiainen 10.7514/73.96; John Spuffard shut off (bye) This year's Pro Fuel Shootout rules are that the Fuel FCs get a 0.35 second head start over the Top Fuel Dragsters, and that the Top Fuel Dragsters get 0.35 added to their ETs. The finalists will be determined by the quickest cumulative ETs (Cannonball style). It took a couple of goes to get Jari's motor started. Lots of smoke from both rear pipes. 0.9630 to sixty feet then the tyre tracks started to narrow and the tyres shook at 200 feet and Jari got off it. Gordon and Janne due to match up but on his way back from his burnout before Janne's motor started so Janne was shut off. Great run for Gordon, 0.9859 to sixty feet, blackstriping to about 300 feet then shake and heading for the guardrail but Gordon stayed with it and pulled it away, the tyre marks headed back towards the rail in the second half but Gordon stayed on the gas. Risto away first 0.1386 to 0.1447, Janne had the better sixty foot time 0.9154 to 0.9217, Risto had shake from about 60 feet to 300 feet and shut off. Janne stayed with it, 3.4253/239.97 at half track and shut off at 1000 feet, 4.3258. Nice burnout for Spuff but then shut off, rain in the air. Theoretically Spuff gets a 25-second penalty for not running but if it was for rain then that wasn't his fault so we'll await word. Qualifying standings after this session (remember the TFs have 0.35 added):

15:40 We're on hold for spots of rain. 15:10 Martin Hill followed Topspeed Automotive Street Eliminator with a superb 5.904/269.80 in the Fireforce Jet FC. Eric Teboul followed with a storming 5.4883/232.42 on his Rocket Bike. 3.6179/221.04 to half track! 15:00 Topspeed Automotive Street Eliminator qualifying session 2 Paul Houston up from #7 to #5 in the second pair and that was on the brakes before the finish line. Improvement for Ray Comer, in the other lane a real moment for Ian Hook as the Coupe got way out of shape, I'd swear it was up on one wheel at one point. Fatty did a great job to save the car. Big improvement for Steve Pateman to consolidate his #1 spot. Andy Hadfield up from #12 to #9 even with a long pedal as the car headed for the Tree.

13:25 Super Street Bike qualifying session 1 Double drama between Chris Reed and Nigel Barker as Boisy tagged the guardrail at half track and then in the other lane Nigel's motor blew out a huge cloud of smoke in the shutdown area. Both racers OK.

12:45 Nostalgia Fuel Altered Association session 1 (left lane first): Joe Bond 13.9646/55.29 bye; Paul Wratten 7.3493/185.07 bye Test launch for Joe, 1.0651 to sixty feet and then off the throttle, another stomp at about half track but the car made a hard move so Joe shut off. 1.1543 to sixty feet for Paul then the altered made a hard move towards the guardrail. Paul calmly pedalled and pulled it away from the rail. Julian Webb followed the NFAA with a 7.2605/207.91 in the Split Second Jet dragster, looked like a checkout pass as he got off the burner for a couple of seconds at half track. 12:30 MSA Pro Modified qualifying session 1 (left lane first): Ray White shut off, Henri Joosten 11.9051/61.27 bye; Kev Slyfield 8.5285/189.90, Bert Englefield 9/0546/147.69; Graham Ellis 8.6722/139.44, Andy Robinson 9.4963/115.96; Ray White shut off (bye) Ray's slicks didn't really light on the burnout, and one of his chutes deployed as he returned from the burnout so he shut off. Storming launch from Henri, 1.0365 to sixty feet at which point his tyres started to shake and he shut off as the Chevy went for the centre line. Spin then shake for both Ken and Bert, both briefly off it and then back on the throttle, Bert clearly in front but Kev overhauled him in the second half. Shake for both Eurodragster.com sponsors Graham and Andy, Andy had the better sixty foot time 1.0533 then hit shake, both pedalled, Graham had more shake and pedalled again. Andy feathered the throttle for a coupel of hundred yards then shut off. Nice burnout for Ray but then shut off for fluid.

Flame from Roel's motor to half track, motor running OK so we are guessing head gasket then a bang and pieces of metal on the track. Rene hit shake and got off the throttle for a long while, then back on it again.

Looked to be driving through the clutch off the line, feathering the throttle all the way down. First run on a new engine for Dennis. Relatively gentle run, rolled the beams before hitting it. 4.3677/187.14 at the eighth. New motor for Timo, too, so a very gentle pass, squeezing the throttle on the way down the track. Great new paint on the Silverline rail and a pass to match, 1.0400 to sixty feet, driving through shake, 3.8814/209.57 at the eighth. Great run for these conditions.

11:30 Topspeed Automotive Street Eliminator qualifying session 1 Lots of checkout passes in this session. Wild ride for Steve Pateman as the Calibra went way out of shape at half track, Steve calmly pedalled and got it straight then back on it for #1 spot at that point. New boy to this class Andy Hadfield paid Chief Starter Ian Marshall a visit during his burnout, even Ian stepped back a few inches, checkout pass with chute at half track. Another SE rookie next, Richard Billings with the twin-turbo 'Vette. Under the gaze of former Pro Mod racer Al Cook a competent burnout, hesitation off the line then blackstriping past sixty feet.

11:15 Super Pro ET qualifying session 1 Huge cloud of smoke from Bob Doyle's Datsun in the shutdown area, long trail of fluid. No word on what the problem was. Karl Harrison looked to have his bell rung a bit by shake past the Tree, the Blown Budget FC idling down the track and rolling to a halt just before the finish line. Great to see Eurodragster.com sponsor Chris Isaacs back on track, a good checkout pass for the Vanguard whilst in the other lane Steve Saunders' Zephyr gave him a wild ride and he backed off at half track. Also great to see Nigel Turner returning, steady pass but then a cloud of smoke in the shutdown area. Track checked and all OK. Superb new paint job on Rick Garrett's Skyline.

The Webster Race Engineering/Nimbus Motorsport webcam is on-line and is set to post a picture every sixty seconds until the track closes on Monday. It's a much better morning out there today, a lot of blue sky around. The forecast for today is much better than yesterday so hopefully we'll get in a lot of good qualifying. A couple of Thank Yous this morning. Firstly thank you to Eurodragster.com sponsors Jeff and Belinda Bull for inviting us to dinner last night, said dinner was with Doug and Ginger Herbert to whom thanks also. A very pleasant evening which made up for the thoroughly miserable day.
