Tune back in the morning and we'll bring you all the news from, hopefully, qualifying and then eliminations. 18:40 We had a very long period of heavy rain, but then the sun came out and the track crew leapt into action to try to dry the track. But the sun has gone in and it's damp out there and the track is not going to dry so Race Director Darren Prentice has called a halt. Tune back shortly for today's pictures, and check out the Pit Notes page for another update from Simon. 14:35 Pro ET qualifying top five during session 2:
Nick Good moved up to second and then in the next pairing was bumped down to #3 as Charlie took over #2 spot, then Dan took over #2 spot in the next pairing! Next pair and Vic Amato took the lead, but that lasted for one run as John Atkinson took over #1 spot. Lee Huxley came in at #4 - then the threatening skies stopped threatening and did it, we're now on hold for rain. 14:30 Sportsman ET qualifying top five after session 1:

That's the end of qualifying cycle 1, straight on into session 2. 14:10 Martin Hill followed up the NFAA session with a 6.673/238.02 in the Fireforce 3 Jet FC. Junior Dragster qualifying top five after session 1:
Collin Morrice is contesting JD again this weekend, in Jay Hauser's dragster. Collin clocked 8.081/80.05 which will be a PB I would imagine. The first time I've seen Rosie Hunt and she pulled a very creditable 0.068. 13:50 Nostalgia Fuel Altered Association session 1 (left lane first): Tony Betts 7.667/128.64, Frank Bennett 7.462/181.36, Bob Glassup shut off, Joe Bond shut off, John Wright broke off line, Clayton Round 7.202/183.65, Bob Glassup 13.997/43.21, Joe Bond 8.338/160.65 Track temperature at the start of this session was 25.0 C. Frank got a big start on Tony 0.101 to 0.312, a straight pass for Frank whilst Tony looked to be on a good pass but then he backed off just after half track then it sounded as if the Venom altered's blower burst panel gave way and there was a cloud of smoke in the shutdown area although the motor was still running. The track was checked and found to be OK. Bob and Joe were pulling forward to stage when word came from the top end that it was raining on the shutdown area. First up after the re-start were John and Clayton, Clayton pulled a 300-foot burnout. Lots of nitro flames from Chaos during staging, on the green Clayton was off and running, a hard and straight pass whilst John had a cylinder go out and then there was a pop from the engine and the altered rolled to a halt. Re-run for Bob and Joe, Bob's altered sounded to be labouring whilst Joe rolled the beams but luckily just as the lights ran. Bob shut off at half track and pulled across to roll to a halt by the guardrail, Joe took the long way round but stayed with it. 13:25 Top Methanol qualifying session 1 (left lane first): Rob Turner 7.266/141.57, Steph Milam no time Steph rolled the beams before the lights ran, the FC's engine sounded to be misfiring as the revs came up but the engine note cleared when Steph hit the throttle although she hit violent tyre shake a few feet out. Rob was off the throttle before half track. Qualifying after this session:
13:20 Top Fuel Bike qualifying after session 1:
A new Personal Best for Turbo, well done Turbo! Steve Carey was looking good until he feathered the throttle and then from here it looked as if a cylinder went out. An impressive run for Ian, his pass included a one-second feather of the throttle so there is a lot more left in the bike. 13:15 Super Modified qualifying top five after session 1:
Craig Gibbs opened his account equalling his personal best, well done Craig! A great pass too for Andy Chilton, 8.578 which has got to be pretty close to a PB. A new best under the latest rules for Rob Smallworth, too, well done Rob! 13:05 Street Eliminator qualifying top five after session 1:
We think Personal Bests for Alex McIntosh at 9.214 and John Walden at 9.991, well done guys! Al Simms broke off the line, small bits and pieces found on the track as he was pushed back - has that hurt Al's Championship standing? We got our first look at Matt Wright's truck in street trim and for your reporter in its new colours, looks just great to us. Matt clocked 10.260 on his first Street Eliminator outing. 12:55 NAST Supertwin Street qualifying after session 1:

In this session we got our first look at the Gleadows' Time Machine altered, Adam clocked a 0.022 reaction and 1.458 to sixty feet for his first observed run. 11:35 Pro ET qualifying top five after session 1:
Track temperature at the start of Pro ET was 21.7 C. Trackside conditions 17.5 C, 40% humidity and 29.38 inches of air. 9:00 Good morning and welcome from Santa Pod Raceway. It's the final weekend of the 2006 UK National Championships and we're here to bring you all the action in association with American Car Imports. The Webster Race Engineering/MPM Oil webcam is on-line and broadcasting a picture every two minutes. Right now we have a damp track after it all got a little biblical here at Santa Pod yesterday afternoon. The rain did disappear yesterday evening and it is actually a very nice morning, sunny and not at all cold: the weather station is reading 16.9 C trackside, 77% humidity, and 29.35 inches of air. We can't see out of Race Control at present because there is condensation on the outside of the windows, so be assured that things are not as bad as they may appear on the webcam - it's just dew. The track crew are doing the usual excellent job on the strip. Stay tuned and we'll be back as soon as qualifying starts, and stay tuned to the Pit Notes page for Simon's latest discoveries.
