Sami's Coupe took a hard right off the line, he pedalled then got back on it then shut off again just after half track. Norbert shut off early and DNQs, I can't remember the last time that happened. Jörgen also a DNQ, the Mustang going way out of shape at about 200 feet and he had to get off, meanwhile in the other lane Marc Meihuizen made it into tomorrow's field at #15 at that point. A tremendous run from Ulf Rapp, blasting yesterday's PB our of sight and into tomorrow's field - and that was with a pedal as the car was trying its best to change lanes! Well done Ulf! Next up for the PBs was Robert, into the 6.7s but not making tomorrow's field, a storming run for Seppo put him into the top sixteen at that point to play tomorrow. No improvements for Pelle and Lars, Lars in the field for tomorrow and Pelle watching him. 50s 'Vette v 60s 'Vette next, Sverre on the bump spot as he went to stage, then he got his bell well and truly rung by tyre shake and shut off, meanwhile a stormer from Bruno, into the 6.5s but staying in place. No improvement for Marko nor Mats, both cars just seemed to run out of puff in the second half. Andy hit vicious shake and the Stude made a move to the right, Andy pedalled to get his vision back and the tyres hooked up and went, his speed not far below the track record. Niclas shut off at half track. Micke went quicker still, into the 6.3s to move up to #3 spot at that point. A nice match-up between Gordon and Roger, 0.01 in their sixty foot times and 0.01 in their half-track times and 0.043 in it at the stripe, or 4.2 metres. We then had easily the quickest and fastest side-by-side run in the history of European Pro Mod with Micke taking #1 spot and doing the first half of a new European speed record, well done Micke! Ubbe also in the 6.3s but not an improvement on his earlier best. Final qualifying:
Trackside conditions at the start of this session were 24.9 C, 27% humidity and 999 mb of air, track temperature 37.0 C. 17:35 FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 4 (left lane first): Arvid Grødem 5.985/389.73 bye, Micke Kågered 6.165/360.35, Jügen Nagel 6.437/344.94, Kjell Sjöblom 6.158/358.49, Jarmo Kuutniemi 6.133/381.22, Dan Larsen 5.937/391.33, Leif Andréasson 8.085/180.53, Ulf Leanders 5.876/389.23, Jurgen Johnsson 5.758/391.46 A spectacular pass for Arvid, the Westside FC drifting towards the centreline, how Arvid missed the eighth-mile reflectors I have no idea, he then got pretty close to the guardrail at the top end, but he moved into the field with his first five-second pass of the weekend. And his crew went wild! No improvement for Micke, Jürgen improved his ET but it was not enough to get him into the race tomorrow. No improvements for Kjell or Jarmo; Kjell is already in the field, Jarmo won't be racing tomorrow but his 0.246 to 0.601 holeshot looked impressive. Jarmo went through the kitty litter and into the cornfield so we had a break whilst the car was recovered, Jarmo was quite OK. A dramatic match-up between Dan and Leif, Dan's Boxter FC drifted to the right, he stayed with it and just as he was pulling it back Leif's Swedish Armed Forces FC crossed lanes right behind him. Dan was still under power so pretty quickly pulled away from trouble, Leif punted both of the eighth-mile reflectors before getting back into his own lane. A great burnout from Jurgen before his match-up with Ulf, the revs zinging very nicely at the end. Having done the new track speed record last time out, Jurgen set a new track ET record this time around and consolidated his #1 spot, Ulf improved too and moved into #2. Jurgen's FC was subsequently found to be underweight so the above run was disallowed, however Jurgen's earlier run was still good for #1 spot. Qualifying standings after this session:
16:55 FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 4 (left lane first): Timo Habermann 5.977/354.89, Krister Johansson 10.839/130.92, Rob Turner 5.650/393.48, Dave Wilson 7.010/190.46, A great pass for Timo, a personal best and his first Five, well done Timo! Krister's engine again sounded as if it was labouring, a cylinder on the left side was spewing fuel, and he got off the throttle at about 300 feet. A nice pass for Rob, noticeably no tyre shake, in the other lane Grumpy's engine looked to blow a burst panel at about 300 feet. Final qualifying:
16:45 FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 4 (left lane first): Stig Neergard 15.87/48.76, Jöran Persåker 5.241/421.19, Tommi Haapanen 5.175/443.53, Monica Öberg 5.354/413.99, Håkan Nilsson 6.465/220.05, Rene Hersland 6.521/367.24, Lex Joon 5.434/323.58, Andy Carter 7.135/105.75, Tommy Möller 6.844/204.54, Thomas Nataas 5.089/477.32, Micke Kågered 8.678/157.20, Urs Erbacher 5.380/no speed Jöran's first full pass in his new car and he looked right at home, the run put him into #8 spot bumping Andy Carter out at that point. Stig's engine banged and a stream of fuel appeared from the back of the engine. Monica's tyres went up in smoke a little further downtrack this time but she stayed on the throttle, the car made a move with the tyres still smoking then there was a ball of flame from her engine. Meanwhile Tommi laid down a great pass, I am thinking somewhere near his personal best, there was some smoke from his engine towards the top end and oil in the shutdown area. First after the clean-up was Håkan N v Rene, Rene's tyres went up in smoke at the Tree, Rene tried pedalling but the tyres were having none of it and the car made a pretty hard left turn. Håkan N was storming but his tyres lit up at half track and he got off the throttle. Andy in the last chance saloon and his tyres weren't interested in spinning in the burnout, the revs went up but the wheels hardly rotated. Good passes for both racers to about 300 feet, Andy's tyres turned at that point, he tried pedalling but the car started to swerve about so he got off the gas. We were all watching Andy but Lex's tyres started to blaze just before half track and he got off the throttle. A little gesturing between Tommy and Crew Chief Kenneth before Tommy staged, Kenneth looked at the injector hat but it wasn't clear what that was about. A storming run from Thomas, 0.900 to sixty feet and 3.440/377.17 at half track, and the high speed of the weekend so far, but he stayed in #5 spot at that point. Tommy's tyres lit up at about 300 feet and he got off the throttle. Confident nods between Crew Chief Alan Jackson and crew member Gary Page as Micke went to stage, good launches for both cars but Micke's tyres smoked at about 400 feet and he got off the throttle. Urs looked to have a cylinder or two out and the blower burst panel blew at about 1000 feet. Final qualifying:
16:00 FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 4 (left lane first): Peter Dahlin 7.563/293.39 bye, Kenneth Soderström 9.226/151.55, Tommy Leindahl 7.062/316.50, Magnus Hansson 7.037/316.12, Eero Knihtilä 7.037/319.06, Jimmy Ålund 6.976/319.25, Michael Malmgren 6.967/321.89 Jan Palmqvist was pushed away from the track before qualifying started. Peter Dahlin is our non-qualifier, no improvement in this session. Kenneth and Tommy paired up again, would there be a game of chicken this time? Not quite, Tommy's car was moving around but he kept it in his lane this time and improved his ET, Kenneth shut off at about half track. Nice side-by-side passes from Magnus and Eero, Eero improved some but stayed in place. Jimmy's crew were dressed as monks for his match-up with Michael, Michael improved but stayed in #1 place. Final qualifying:
15:45 FIM/UEM Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 4 (left lane first): Finn Asserbo 12.264/157.42 bye, Mikael Andersson 8.398/255.24 bye, Otto Knebl 8.490/260.63 bye, Soren Hartvig 10.358/134.28, Shaun Branch 7.453/290.62, Kai Selkamaa 7.503/292.21 bye, Peter Ström 7.022/308.26, Rickard Gustafsson 6.721/323.24 Finn's engine sounded as if it was begging for the coup de grace on the way down the track, misfiring and making ominous metallic noises. Looked like an easy run for Mikael, he won't be racing tomorrow either. A consistent run for Otto on the ZX12R, he too will be spectating tomorrow. An improvement in ET for Shaun Branch but he stayed in place. Same story for Kai Selkamaa, a great pass and an improvement but he stayed where he was. Rickard did it again, a huge improvement and another #1 spot for a Funny Bike in FIM/UEM Top Fuel! Qualifying after this session:
15:35 FIM/UEM Supertwin qualifying session 3 (left lane first): Svein Olav Rolfstad 7.818/231.44 bye, Kjell Andersson 9.289/251.59, Joachim Riemer no time, Petri Kalttonen 8.079/274.27, Torbjörn Svensson 25.639/65.25, Svein Gottenberg 10.980/124.86, Carina Sjutti 9.405/157.18, Per Bengtsson 6.807/321.78, Jaska Salakari 8.256/no speed, Ronny Aasen 25.580/33.54, Anders Karling 7.567/263.31, Günther Sohn 7.637/238.18 bye, Lorenz Stäble 7.643/209.26, Hans Olav Olstad 9.168/164.59 A very slight hesitation off the line for Svein Olav and then he backed off at about 100 feet, ninth at that point despite the improvement so he won't be racing tomorrow. A big bang from Joachim's engine at the hit, Kjell took an easy pass. A big improvement for Petri even though he shut off early, Torbjörn's engine went bang at 100 feet or so and he just about made it to the top end. Svein shut off at half track and even from here I could see him saying something naughty in his helmet. Carina shut off at about half track. Per's tyre didn't light in the burnout and the bike shot down the track, that probably got Per's attention. The lack of a burnout didn't hurt as Per went into the #1 spot at that point, there was flame and unburnt fuel from Jaska's exhausts at half track and the cleanup crew went into action in the shutdown area. Ronny put the front wheel down and got off the throttle at about 300 feet, Anders' bike drifted towards the centreline and he got off the throttle for a moment to straighten things out. Günther's bike looked to be trying to throw him off again, banging up on the wheelie bars, Günther feathered the throttle and as soon as he hit the throttle it sat back up on the bars again. Lo's engine was smoking in the second half and he shut off early, there was a flash of flame from Hans Olav's engine at half track Final qualifying:
15:10 FIM/UEM Pro Stock Bike qualifying session 4 (left lane first): Ulf Ögge 8.014/268.36 bye, Orjan Gustavsson shut off, Luigi Chinarello 7.855/272.18 bye, Tom Tinndahn 7.851/263.41, Paul Watson 7.538/278.71, Anders Larsson 9.941/134.85, Martin Bishop 7.666/284.98, Anders Abrahamsson 7.392/287.50 bye, Anders Jakobsson shut off A big improvement from Luigi put Ulf out of the field with no chance of getting back as he had already run. Orjan lost fire after his burnout and the bike would not re-start. Everyone in the field was safe at this point but Paul Watson made sure of it with a big improvement which moved him up to fourth at that point. Martin improved but stayed in place, Anders L shut off and sat up at half track. Anders A took the bye after Anders J lost fire after the burnout, and in the last gasp he took over the lead. Final qualifying:

Jari left the line on very low revs and took it gently up the track. Marc Meihuizen was pushed away for the second time in three sessions, Jörgen took the bye but it didn't sound as if the car was on full throttle. Ulf and Sami had a burnout contest, but then Ulf was pushed back and off to the side of the track. Sami took the bye but the engine revs shot up a few feet off the track and Sami got off the throttle. A storming pass from Micke, as soon as the car left the line you could tell it was on a good one, 1.076 to sixty feet and 4.175/283.84 to half track, smoke in the shutdown area but nothing found on the track apart from a twin with a big smile on his face having moved into third. Robert shut off early, another six but no improvement for Seppo, he remained on the bump at that point. A great wheels-up launch from Lars but no improvement in ET, an improvement for Pelle but he stayed in place. Sverre's Vette made a big move to the right at the hit and he quickly got off the throttle, Micke's reaction time was nothing to write home about but it was a spectacular run, the Chevy moving left and right and Micke staying with it to move into #2 spot. Bruno pulled his burnout first, Freddy burned out to half track and Sharkman at trackside radioed in "A pound bet that Freddy gets back to the start line before Bruno", and Sharkman would have got his pound as Freddy just made it before Bruno, improvements for both racers, Bruno stayed in place and Freddy moved up to #8 at that point. Marko sidelined his car after his burnout so Mats took the bye, a very nice looking pass with no sign of shake, an improved ET but staying in place with an identical ET to Niclas Andersson at that point. A tremendous match-up between Niclas and Andy, Niclas improving and moving up the standings, Andy's run was easily as good but the displayed ET was 1.898 - it was a good run but not that good. A quick bit of work from the timing crew and we were back in business. First up were Jan Arve and Gordon, great burnouts from both completely fogged the start line. Gordon then shut off after backing up, Jan Arve took the bye but no improvement in ET. Roger will have a huge headache right now as his Mustang shook like crazy and made a move to the right off the start line, Urban disappeared into the distance with another storming pass. Qualifying standings after this session:
Trackside conditions at the end of this session were 27.3 C, 17% humidity, 998 mb of air, and the track temperature was 46.2 C. 12:55 FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 3 (left lane first): Martin Lundqvist 5.989/373.30 bye, Arvid Grødem 6.126/379.64 bye, Jügen Nagel 6.507/346.92, Kjell Sjöblom 5.966/381.74, Jarmo Kuutniemi 6.086/362.12, Micke Kågered 6.018/379.12, Leif Andréasson 5.884/383.46, Dan Larsen 5.928/393.26, Jurgen Johnsson 5.838/402.29, Ulf Leanders 5.922/389.16 A big move up the standings for Martin, into the fives and #5 spot at that point. A quick track check and oil was found in the shutdown area. Arvid pedalled at about 500 feet, the car was moving around the lane a little, but the run was still good to move him up a place at that point. There was a lot of smoke from the headers of Jürgen N's car all the way down the track, his ET improved though, but he stayed in place. Kjell went into the fives and #6 spot at that point. Jarmo held onto his FC although it was weaving left and right all the way up the track, and moved into the eight-car field, Micke improved slightly. A classic match between Leif and Dan, Leif taking over the lead and Dan improving, 0.039 in it at the stripe. Jurgen wasn't going to sit there and watch Leif take away his #1 spot, he took it back and set a new track speed record into the bargain, Ulf improved his ET. Qualifying standings after this session:
12:25 FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 3 (left lane first): Krister Johansson 6.792/375.48, Timo Habermann 6.188/353.25, Yngve Solberg 7.017/310.81, Rob Turner 5.590/398.24, Dave Wilson 5.476/414.58, Peter Schöfer 5.550/414.23 Krister's engine sounded quite lazy and there was a cylinder out for the first half of the track, Timo pulled another nice wheelie and the dragster moved around the lane some which will have affected the ET. Yngve waited a long time after starting to pull his burnout, even then he was already backing up before Rob pulled forward for his own burnout but the Turner Racing crew were visibly working as fast as they could so as not to keep Yngve waiting any longer. An improvement for Yngve but he stayed in place, a consistent pass from Rob kept him in #3 spot at that point. Another classic Wilson v Schöfer match-up, Peter's tyre shake very visible again but he drove through it effortlessly, consistent passes from both racers. Qualifying after this session:
Trackside conditions at the start of this session were 25.1 C, 24% himidity and 999 mb of air, track temperature on the start line was 40.8 C. 12:10 FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 3 (left lane first): Stig Neergard 5.904/276.10 bye, Jöran Persåker 9.906/116.99 bye, Tommi Haapanen 10.913/132.90 bye, Rene Hersland 6.321/235.27, Håkan Fällström 5.058/467.16, Monica Öberg 7.794/170.77, Håkan Nilsson 5.387/338.22, Andy Carter 5.771/271.12, Lex Joon no time, Urs Erbacher 5.038/469.74, Tommy Möller 5.023/467.47, Thomas Nataas 5.092/476.01, Micke Kågered 4.944/no speed Another nice-looking pass for Stig, half pass yesterday and 1000 feet today. 0.937 to sixty feet, 3.641/342.80 at half track and the chutes out just before the traps. Next up was Jöran with his first pass in his newly-acquired dragster, Peter Lantz leading a crew of ten around the car. 0.897 to sixty feet then the tyres went up in smoke at about 200 feet and one chute deployed. Very low revs again for Tommi, at the hit the tyres went up in smoke but Tommi stayed with it, tried pedalling and the tyres blazed and he eventually got off it. By the way Anita if you haven't read yesterday's pit notes then Tommi had a message there for you. A nice pass from Håkan F moved him up to second, not a foot wrong, 0.934 to sixty feet amd 3.420/385.37 to half track and on the throttle just about to the stripe. Rene got to sixty feet in 0.939, 3.587/208.26 to half track and then a cylinder went out and the rear tyres smoked, the dragster made a move to the left and Rene got off the throttle. We now have the most Top Fuellers ever to qualify in the history of the FIA Championship and probably in the whole history of European drag racing. 0.919 to sixty feet for Monica, the tyres started to smoke just before half track and Monica was off the throttle, an improvement in ET but no move in the standings. It looked to be a good one for Håkan N, 0.906 to sixty feet and 3.462/377.17 at half track but then he got off the throttle at about 900 feet. Next up was Lex against Andy with Lex's former Crew Chief Eddie Corr now back working with Andy, burnouts to the Tree for both, just as Lex staged the reds flashed on the Tree a couple of times and then ran. Lex was away first 0.123 to 0.126, 0.883 to sixty feet for Lex to 0.903 for Andy, Lex was at half track at 3.360/396.10 and Andy 3.419/364.28, Andy's blower belt departed the B&Q dragster at about 1000 feet, and Lex had a flash fire in the shutdown area. Lex didn't get a time or speed for the second time in three runs, that was not a good run to lose because it looked like a stormer. The decision was made at this point to run the Tree from Race Control which to my knowledge is the first time this has ever happened. Confusion in the next pairing as both Micke and Thomas started up and pulled forward for their burnouts whilst the timing crew were at the top end checking the photocells, both cars were shut off and moved back to the pairing lanes to cool off and Urs and Tommy were brought forward. Urs up to #2 spot with a great pass and another personal best, 0.935 to sixty feet which is relatively gentle, 3.420/393.86 at half track, Tommy got to sixty feet in 0.907 and half track at 3.380/387.44. Another great match between Thomas and Micke, the cars side-by-side all the way down the track. 0.903 to sixty feet for Thomas, 0.903 for Micke, 3.444 at half track for the Batmobile and 3.349 for the Bahco Tools Express, Micke first into the Fours this weekend and into #1 spot, Thomas moved up to #5. Final qualifying:
11:30 FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 3 (left lane first): Peter Dahlin 7.488/293.41, Jan Palmqvist 7.535/292.25, Tommy Leindahl 7.090/313.69, Kenneth Soderström 7.610/273.25, Eero Knihtilä 7.109/315.07, Magnus Hansson 7.024/316.44, Michael Malmgren 6.995/318.93, Jimmy Ålund 6.967/317.51 Peter's engine sounded a little hesitant although he improved his ET, staying in place. Jan sat and watched Peter leave, then the Volvo was moving around the lane a little but he stayed with it. Tommy did an interesting driving job after the Camaro started to skate and about half the car crossed into the other lane, Tommy stayed on the power and drove it back just missing the 594 foot reflector and stayed with it and still ran a 7.0! Kenneth in the other lane lost some time moving out of Tommy's way, I hope they were not as close as it looked from here. Magnus moved into #3 spot at that point with a great-looking pass, Eero's pass looked a lot quicker than it was. Michael backed up his Grand Am at a speed of which Fast Freddy would be proud, then a great side-by-side six-second match-up with Jimmy who took over the lead. Qualifying after this session:
11:15 FIM/UEM Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 3 (left lane first): Shaun Branch 7.491/282.13 bye, Finn Asserbo 25.055/38.27 bye, Otto Knebl 8.471/253.85 bye, Mikael Andersson 12.704/208.72, Eric Teboul 6.934/293.39, Kai Selkaaama 7.847/279.35, Soren Hartvig 8.110/250.47, Luigi Ferretti 7.128/299.56, Tommy Jonsson broke, Rickard Gustafsson 7.192/287.14, Peter Ström 6.969/333.78 A great pass for Shaun moved him into the top eight at that point. We noticed Chris Hope's son Alex helping Shaun out so don't worry Chris, he is staying out of trouble. Finn's exhaust was spewing unburnt fuel at the hit and he was off the throttle almost immediately. Otto improved a little, enough to move him up a spot. A big jump up the standings for Eric, a cylinder out and fighting to go in a straight line but into #4 at that point, in the other lane Mikael was off the throttle before half track. Soren didn't put his front wheel down until about 500 feet, an improvement in ET moved him up a place, a consistent pass for Kai. A good pass for Championship leader Luigi but no improvement, Tommy's engine cut out off the line. Next up was Rickard, could he whack another Top Fuel Bike? The answer was not quite, but he had a good go at it. Qualifying after this session:
11:00 FIM/UEM Supertwin qualifying session 3 (left lane first): Svein Olav Rolfstad 12.628/94.55 bye, Kjell Andersson 8.307/263.46 bye, Torbjörn Svensson 7.973/274.61 bye, Carina Sjutti 9.916/189.52, Svein Gottenberg 7.816/244.70, Ulf Nylen 7.499/229.96, Per Bengtsson 15.191/78.28, Jaska Salakari 8.624/287.41, Ronny Aasen 6.960/330.83, Anders Karling 10.458/128.62 bye, Günther Sohn 8.610/211.20 bye, Hans Olav Olstad 10.007/144.22, Lorenz Stäuble 7.357/225.72 Svein Olav's engine was misfiring off the line and he got off the throttle at about 300 feet. Kjell improved and moved up one place, the bike seemed to want to go to the right of the lane. In the very next run, Torbjörn improved big time and took back the place he lost to Kjell. Carina moved up a spot, in the other lane Svein looked to be on a good pass but got off the throttle very early. Ulf moved into the top eight with a very nice pass on the new bike, feathering the throttle for shake and then getting off the power at about 1000 feet, in the other lane Per was off the throttle by about 200 feet. An improvement for Ronny but he stayed in place, judging by the puffs of smoke the front wheel was up and down two or three times. Jaska shut off at about half track. Anders was on a good one, 1.166 to sixty feet and riding a cushion of nitro flame even in the strong daylight but then there was a bang at 300 feet and Charley idled through. Günther did a good job of holding onto his bike, it pulled a big wheelie and made a move to the left at about 200 feet and for a moment it looked as if the bike was trying to throw him off. Günther calmly got off the throttle and idled through. Lorenz got a big jump on Hans Olav, Hans Olav was off the throttle at half track and Lo got off it at about 1000 feet with smoke coming from the engine. Qualifying after this session:
10:40 FIM/UEM Pro Stock Bike qualifying session 3 (left lane first): Luigi Chinarello 8.166/264.42, Ulf Ögge 8.261/265.44, Paul Watson 8.067/271.14, Tom Tinndahn 7.789/269.42, Martin Bishop 7.832/272.42, Anders Abrahamson 7.474/285.27, Anders Jakobsson 7.607/279.36, Anders Larsson 7.531/286.45, Orjan Gustavsson 7.811/273.53 bye Orjan was first out and went to the line but when starter Nettan pushed the button for the Tree nothing happened. Luigi got quite close to the left-hand guardrail but pulled the bike away, no improvement for him nor for Ulf. No improvements for Paul and Tom either, Paul's bike looked to be skating a tiny bit in the first hundred feet or so. Anders A moved up to second at that point, Martin stayed in place. Anders L reasonably close to his best time but I am wondering whether today's weather hasn't thrown the racers a curve ball as only a couple have improved, the second being Orjan who moved up a place. It has made things a lot easier except for the people who get in the way before I can get it stopped. Simon has asked me to say thank you to Erik and Lotta's kids Carl and Matilda for the birthday cards. Again thanks to everyone who has written with nice comments on the coverage, all of your E-Mails are read (and kept) and it's much appreciated.
