20:15 Qualifying stopped It still has not stopped raining. We have not yet been officially called for the day but all qualifying has been stopped, and the session of Top Methanol FC which was running when the rain came has been annulled since it was not completed. So the final standings in Top Methanol FC are as they were at the end of qualifying session 3:
Pro Stock and Pro Stock Bike qualifying were completed before the rain so those sessions stand as we published them. Tomorrow's first rounds are as follow: FIA Top Fuel Dragster
FIA Top Methanol Dragster
FIA Top Methanol Funny Car
FIA Pro Stock
FIM/UEM Top Fuel Bike
FIM/UEM Supertwin
FIM/UEM Pro Stock Bike
NDRS Bilsport Pro Modified
Erik has posted today's NDRS results, and Sharkman is now working on today's pictures so stay tuned for those. 16:45 FIA Top Methanol Funny Car final qualifying session (left lane first): Jonas Staflund 6.487/370.08, Arvid Grødem 6.388/341.48... An improvement for Jonas although he lost time pedalling off the start line and then the car was bouncing some on the run. Arvid hung onto the bump spot at that point. Kjell Sjöblom and Niclas Andersson were then shut off for rain after returning from their burnouts. Stay tuned and we'll be back as soon as we get going again. Current qualifying standings:

A great match-up between Jallo and Bruno, both straight as you like and Bruno blasted his PB out of sight on what must only be his fourth or fifth run in Pro Mod, both moving right up the standings and lowering the bump spot into the 6.6s at that point. Robert drifted to the right and got off the throttle whilst Patrik also headed for the centre line but pedalled and got back on it, then backed off at about a thousand feet. Torsten's car started to smoke and he was off the throttle at 300 feet whilst Micke L put in a stormer, losing the blower belt right on the stripe. Gordon's Camaro has "Hello Ade" on the back window, for the webcam I guess! Gordon went the long way round whilst Lars Inge sat in stage and watched him, improving his ET but staying where he was in the standings. A slight improvement from Urban moved him up a couple of spots whilst Håkan F hit bad shake and was off the throttle at about 200 feet. A slight improvement too from Marko moving him up a place. Terje's car started to smoke and made a hard move to the left, leaving a trail of oil, Sharkman at trackside reported seeing "A bit of metal chasing him through the eighth" which turned out to be the oil cap. Christer his shake and his car made a hard move to the right, he eventually pedalled and got back on it and the car started moving around again but Christer stayed with it, but then had no chutes and went through the sandtrap and onto the farm the other side similar to Susanne Callin's excusrion yesterday. Freddy drive through shake and recorded an identical ET to his current qualifier. A consistent run for Norbert whilst Mats hit bad shake again and got off the throttle at about 400 feet. A great pair of passes from Kent and Jörgen, consistent run by Kent and a slight improvement from Jörgen moving him up one spot. No improvements from Jan-Arve or Marc, Marc feathered the throttle very slightly at half track. Roger hit shake off the line and got off the throttle whilst patrick put in a stormer of a run to move into third spot. Håkan N then took third spot off Patrick with a fine pass whilst Micke Gullquist hit shake and the car made a hard move, the headers on one side grounding. Qualifying standings after this session:
13:25 FIM/UEM Supertwin qualifying session 3 (left lane first): Petri Kalttonen 7.151/242.80, Lorenz Stauble 7.007/316.05, Hans-Christian Nilsen 7.511/299.94, Gunther Sohn shut off, Joachim Riemer 7.915/211.46 bye, Anders Karling 6.546/345.54, Tomas Sulek 9.235/236.88, Greger Johanssen 8.333/222.02 bye, Svein Gottenberg 7.050/319.57, Hans Olav Olstad 7.399/311.36, Ronny Aasen 6.860/326.91, Svein Olav Rolfstad 8.168/176.94, Ton Pels 6.972/264.54, Per Bengtsson 13.004/99.82 A very nice run from Petri with some left as he backed off at about a thousand feet. Great runs from Lo and Hans-Christian, Lo moving around on the bike to keep it straight whilst Hans-Christian's front wheel didn't come down until three hundred feed. Hans-Christian moved up the standings with his pass. Gunther was shut off on the line by the start line crew for a rule violation, Joachim took the bye and shut off just after half track. A superb run from Charley took #1 spot at that point and both ends of the track record, well done Charley! Gregor's bike started to smoke towards the top end but he stayed with it so I guess he felt nothing wrong. An improvement for Hans Olav moved him up the field. Svein Olav had a small flash fire just past half track, Svein Olav OK and nothing found on the track. Ton shut off at about 1100 feet whilst Per's rear slick went up in smoke, he tried to ride through it but eventually got off the throttle. Qualifying standings after this session:
13:05 FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 2 (left lane first): Krister Johansson 10.388/140.71 bye, Mats Björklund 6.009/385.46, Peter Schöfer 5.632/409.14, Timo Habermann 6.381/282.11, Yngve Solberg broke, Rob Turner 5.667/402.98, Dave Wilson 5.471/417.17 A nice burnout from Krister but on the green the car sounded very rough as if it was mixing cylinders, cylinders were going out one after the other and Krister got off the throttle. Peter and his team had a long night last night looking at the rear end and other problems found after yesterday's pass, Peter got a little out of the groove but stayed on it and steered back to the centre of his lane. A straight run for Mats, no sign of any problems. Ygnve shut off after his burnout and was pushed back, Timo left the line wheels-up again and was on a strong pass before getting off it at a thousand feet or so, some smoke from the car but no word of any problem. Another great match-up between Rob and Dave, a thousandth between their RTs, Grumpy consolidated his #1 spot with another 5.4. Qualifying standings after this session:
12:50 FIM/UEM Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 3 (left lane first): Shaun Branch 17.686/71.48, Nils Ole Lund 7.307/299.99 bye, Sverre Dahl 6.428/364.04, Peter Andersson Ström 7.010/301.93, Mikael Andersson 7.840/270.36, Håkan Edvall 8.889/252.53, Per Wern 8.832/272.94, Ian King 6.640/318.49 Shaun left the line very strongly but then got off the throttle at about 200 feet. Erik Teboul didn't start and pushed away, Nils Ole took the bye with a very straight pass although the bike sounded a little detuned. Sverre and Peter both went all the way to the stripe, Sverre taking #1 spot and setting a new track speed record, well done Sverre! Mikael improved his ET and his crew were very happy with the time but he stayed where he was, similarly Håkan improved his ET but not his standing. Ian improved his ET, feathering the throttle towards the finish line, but stayed where he was in the standings. Qualifying standings after this session:
12:40 FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 3 (left lane first): Monica Öberg 11.882/101.92 bye, Andy Carter 4.986/484.12, Lex Joon 5.150/328.02, Susanne Callin 5.192/320.92 bye, Tommy Möller 12.224/108.74, Micke Kågered 8.152/160.60 Monica had trouble selecting reverse after her burnout but her crew rushed to her aid. The car left the line with cylinders out and then the tyres started to haze, there was a flash of flame, and Monica got off the throttle. A brief moment of consternation around the front of Andy's engine before his run, on the green Lex was away first and was really on one, 3.201 at half track before the tyres hazed very slightly and then the MPM car threw its belt, an improved ET but no change in position. Andy meanwhile was on a straight and hard pass, into the fours, high speed of the weekend so far which equates to 300.82 mph, and into third place. A great run from Susanne, no sign of nerves after yesterday's adventure. 0.883 to sixty feet and then the engine note started to go down towards the top end, then there was a pop which I guess was the burst panel and Susanne got off the throttle and put the chutes out. A very short burnout for Tommy before his match-up with Micke, on the green both hit tyre shake off the line, Tommy stayed with it a fraction longer than Micke but then he too got off it, with small parts exiting the car. Qualifying standings after this session:
Whilst we were on hold for clean-up, FIA Championship promoter Keith Bartlett popped in to Race Control to tell us that the Bahrain Invitational in November and the first round of the 2006 FIA Championship next March are now a fact, contacts signed and sealed. Obviously we're a bit busy to be interviewing Keith and the guys from Bahrain right now but stay tuned and we will bring you the details later on. 11:55 FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 3 (left lane first): Jonas Staflund 7.289/251.43 bye, Jarmo Kuutniemi 6.557/277.44, Ulf Leanders 5.893/385.83, Niclas Andersson 6.345/356.75, Kjell Sjöblom 6.911/324.82, Arvid Grødem 6.467/346.44, Jürgen Nagel 6.566/361.17, Martin Lundqvist 6.299/373.53, Leif Andréasson 9.610/139.25, Dan Larsen 10.227/121.15, Urs Erbacher 5.869/395.20 Jonas pedalled a couple of times at about 300 feet, the car was bouncing a lot past half track and then at about a thousand feet there was a bang and the pressure relief panel flew into the air again. Jonas had no chutes but got it stopped OK. Jarmo back on track after going into the sandtrap yesterday and Ulf operating on a couple of hours' sleep after working until 5:30 this morning, a great run for Ulf which will probably make him forget all about this season's woes, into #3 at that point and safely in the field for tomorrow's eliminations. Niclas' FC crept off the line very slightly before the hit which will have damaged the ET a little, and cylinders were out on one side, but he is now in the ladder. A slight improvement for Jürgen and we understand a new PB but he stayed where he was in the ladder. A bit of a wait on the start line for Martin and Leif before they were called forward, on the green Martin strapped a 0.089 to 0.465 holeshot on Leif (not that it matters in qualifying). No improvement for Martin, Leif pedalled a couple of times and was off the throttle at about five hundred feet. An improvement for Urs but still behind Dan by four thousandths of a second. Dan hit shake and shut off, rubber and other non-critical bits and pieces were found in his lane. Qualifying standings after this session:
11:30 FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 3 (left lane first): Peter Emilsson broke (bye), Jackie Hansen 7.140/313.96, Michael Malmgren 7.017/318.54, Ulf Jonsson 7.154/310.59, Jan Murén 7.043/318.00, Jöran Persåker 7.190/309.57, Jimmy Ålund 6.980/319.41, Rickard Sundblom 7.106/315.01, Magnus Hansson 6.995/318.77 Peter shut off after his burnout. An improvement from Michael moved him up to third at that point whilst Jackie's ET improved but he stayed where he was in the standings. Ulf moved up a place whilst Jan stayed where he was, a pretty consistent run though. No improvements from either Jöran or Jimmy but consistent passes. Into the sixes again for Magnus to consolidate his lead whilst Rickard improved his ET but stayed where he was. Qualifying standings after this session:
11:15 FIM/UEM Pro Stock Bike qualifying session 3 (left lane first): Magnus Solverup 8.795/239.01 bye, Orjan Gustavsson 7.587/284.62, Anders Larsson 7.425/289.41, Roger Pettersson broke (bye), Martin Bishop 7.580/276.01, Anders Abrahamsson 7.366/292.62, An improvement for Magnus, getting a handle on the bike. Anders L moved up to second at that point with a big improvement whilst Orjan improved his ET but stayed where he was. Roger's engine cut out a few feet off the line. A very consistent pass from Anders A and pretty close to his last pass for Martin. Qualifying standings after this session:

Today we are scheduled to start Sportsman eliminations, to get all classes down to eight, and continue with Pro qualifying. The webcam is on-line and broadcasting a picture every two minutes, you can view it via the event index page. Right now the track crew are working hard to dry the track. It rained quite heavily overnight and the rain was then in the air until a short while ago. However the track appears to be drying very quickly so hopefully we will have some good news for you soon, and Simon is already out collecting pit notes so keep an eye on that page for the latest word. We would like to thank everyone who has been in touch with appreciative comments about the event coverage, very good of you to write guys. Also we would like to say a big Hello to Rose Hughes who should have been here this weekend, hope things are OK Rose. We'll be back with you as soon as the action starts. |
