This looked a very strong pass and Monica was off the throttle a touch early as the car made a big move to the left. "Big chunks" of aluminium were found on the track at the top end after Monica's run, no word yet on what occurred. Micke Kågered blazed the tyres at a hundred feet, the car disappeared in a cloud of smoke. Tommy Möller's engine started to smoke and eat itself up at about three hundred feet, meanwhile Lex was on a strong run although Erik noticed that the front end of the dragster was bouncing up and down on the track, it looked as if Lex got off the throttle just a touch before the line. The final qualifying standings in FIA Top Fuel Dragster are as follow:
19:20 NDRS Bilsport Pro Modified qualifying session 4 Left lane first: Lars Inge Johansson 8.023/186.62 bye, Christer Jacobs 19.134/60.17, Ulf Rapp 25.498/38.16, Stefan Peterson 8.404/187.31 bye, Robert Koper 7.091/299.22, Arne Lindkvist 9.535/153.78, Terje Hakonsen 7.067/337.40 bye, Seppo Saapola 7.312/294.61 bye, Norbert Kuno 6.921/333.55 bye, Urban Johansson 6.912/331.51, Marc Meihuizen 6.621/340.75, Freddy Fagerström 6.761/337.29, Håkan Fällström 6.738/330.79, Tomi Pöntinen 6.513/345.45, Mats Eriksson 6.504/359.09, Roger Johansson 6.624/342.05, Andy Robinson 11.540/117.69, Håkan Nilsson 6.507/348.88, Micke Gullquist 6.519/348.77, Micke Lindahl 6.492/346.28, Patrick Wikström 6.445/352.21 Lars Inge Johansson put in his first pass since his crash last year, before the run he told us that we would basically checking that everything worked as it should and then pull the parachute at the end. It turned out to be one of those Maltese-sixty-foot sort of passes as Lars Inge went at it, getting out of shape at half track and getting off the gas at that point. Christer Jacobs' last shot at qualifying ended in violent shake and a big flame under the car, the second shock DNQ of the day here at Mantorp Park. Ulf's run was a carbon copy of his previous passes, the car jumped up and the tyres smoked. Stefan Peterson made a nice half-pass with the new Pro Mod after suffering ingition problems earlier but won't be racing tomorrow. Robert Koper improved but didn't quite make tomorrow's eliminations whilst Arne Lindkvist had a wild ride, going out of shape and touching the centre line before getting off the throttle. Terje Hakonsen stepped up but not by quite enough to race tomorrow, a nice pass though. Seppo Saapola's last chance to get in to the field didn't work out, although his ET improved it did not change his place in the standings. Norbert Kuno made most of his pass down the right hand side of his lane, close to the guardrail, but he stayed with it. Marc Meihuizen and Urban Johansson both improved, Marc enough to move him up the field. Freddy pulled a thousand foot burnout before his pass, stopping past the finish line but still getting back to the start line at the same time as Urban Johansson! Mats Eriksson is on the first half of a European speed record with his pass which moved him even further up the field whilst Tomi Pontinen also improved his place. Andy Robinson had a huge nitrous burp followed by what looked like a small flash fire at about 300 feet, the scoop stayed on and the fire went out almost instantly. A nice side-by-side run from Håkan Nilsson and Micke Gullquist, very close to their previous performances but no improvement, both are solidly in the field for tomorrow. Micke Lindahl and Patrick Wikström both pulled 300-foot burnouts before their match-up, Patrick took second place away from Håkan Nilsson with his run, side-by-side 6.4s rounded off the session perfectly! The final qualifying standings in NDRS Bilsport Pro Modified are as follow:
18:35 FIM/UEM Supertwin qualifying session 4 Left lane first: Svein Gottenberg 8.068/235.78 bye, Kjell Andersson 11.079/171.99, Per Olov Berglund 8.855/210.92, Carsten Andersson 15.575/74.41, Cato Waale 9.004/239.01, Joakim Riemer 7.726/283.13, Stefan Junerud 7.308/266.53, Trond Alm 10.449/130.39, Fredrik Solheim 8.665/174.24, Hans Christian Nils 7.671/234.83, Hans Olav Olstad 7.750/290.31, Greger Johansson 7.316/284.02 bye, Ronny Aasen 7.702/314.76, Svein Olav Rolfstad broke, Ton Pels 6.715/329.47, Anders Karling 7.205/239.39 Svein Gottenberg had one final chance to make tomorrow's field and didn't make it, the engine didn't sound happy all the way down the track. Improvements from Kjell Andersson and Per Olov Berglund also aren't enough to get into tomorrow's eliminations. Stefan Junerud got into the field with his pass. Hans Olav Olstad looked to have a hairy moment when his front wheel wasn't pointing in the direction of travel as it came down, Hans Olav had it covered though. Greger Johansson bumped Ronny Aasen out of the field; Ronny was next up and was a shock non-qualifier as his bike never sounded as if it was on full throttle, whilst in the other lane Svein Olav Rolfstad's chain broke although he was already safely in tomorrow's field. Ton Pels and Anders Karling had a superb match-up, side by side all the way until Charley got into a wobble just past half track, he stayed with it as long as he could but eventually got off the throttle. The final qualifying standings in FIM/Supertwin are as follow:
18:15 FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 4 Left lane first: Arto Höylä 8.655/216.02, Rob Turner 5.864/391.51, Krister Johansson 6.778/226.31, Dave Wilson 5.492/416.54, Peter Schöfer 5.605/406.34 Arto Höylä hit hideous tyre shake at the hit, both rear slicks off the track at one point. Arto got off the throttle and rolled for a short distance then got back on it. Just as the next pair fired up, it started to rain very lightly and we had about half an hour's wait. On the re-start Rob Turner left very strongly, the car went out of the groove but Rob stayed with it, meanwhile Krister Johansson hit wicked tyre shake and was off the throttle by half track. Dave Wilson and Peter Schöfer had a tremendous side-by-side match, Peter got away first and improved his ET, but Dave went past him and consolidated his #1 spot. The final qualifying standings in FIA Top Methanol Dragster are as follow:
17:20 FIM/UEM Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 4 Left lane first: Joey Bon 22.496/72.70, Johan Emilson 10.247/190.60, Viep Blomen broke, Sverre Dahl 6.533/328.79, Martyn de Haas broke, Robert Karlsson 7.970/283.06, Tommy Jonsson 8.347/253.05, Mikael Andersson 11.101/194.40, Peter Andersson Ström 7.040/273.25, Shaun Branch 7.766/227.00, Jon Leret 6.843/333.67, Antonio Ferretti 7.146/307.84 Joey Bon idled down the track and doesn't make the cut, Johan Emilson improved but also doesn't make tomorrow's eliminations. Sverre Dahl on his last shot to qualify moved up into number two spot, bumping Robert Karlsson, Viep Bloemen's bike broke on the line. Martyn de Haas' engine sounded very sick indeed off the line and at about a hundred feet the exhaust came off and fell onto the track, Robert Karlsson in the other lane put himself back into the field. A slight improvement from Peter Andersson Ström but he was safely in the qualifying field anyway, Shaun Branch rode the front wheel for quite some way before it came down with what looked like an almighty thump, Shaun got off the throttle just before the stripe. Antonio Ferretti improved but again was safely in tomorrow's field. The final qualifying standings in FIM/UEM Top Fuel Bike are as follow:
16:40 FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 4 Left lane first: Dan Larsen 5.908/395.18 bye, Ulf Leanders 5.897/382.22, Leif Andréasson 5.995/390.85, Urs Erbacher 5.899/392.58, Niclas Andersson 5.892/392.92 Dan Larsen found his form with a very strong, straight pass, back into the fives and up the qualifying standings. Ulf Leanders apppeared with a change of body, the IronCAD body which Martin Lundqvist has had on display this weekend and it seems to have changed Ulf's luck as the car went straight and true. Leif Andréasson finally got into the fives this weekend with a much better-looking pass. Jörgen Johnsson and Arvid Grødem did not appear for this session. A tremendous match-up between Urs Erbacher and Niclas Andersson, the cars side-by-side although Urs took the long way round. The final qualifying standings in FIA Top Methanol Funny Car are as follow:
16:20 FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 4 Left lane first: Kenneth Soderström 7.435/300.57 bye, Ulf Jonsson 7.177/310.39, Peter Emilsson 7.173/309.92, Eero Knihtilä 7.076/315.84, Jackie Hansen 7.138/315.83, Magnus Hansson 7.077/313.28, Jöran Persåker 7.147/311.33, Jimmy Ålund 6.955/319.67, Michael Malmgren 7.112/318.18 Kenneth Soderström took a very long way round on his qualifying shot and misses out on racing tomorrow. Consistent passes from Ulf Jonsson and Peter Emilsson, Ulf must be biting his mails on Tommy Leindahl's qualifier. A consistent pass also from Eero Knihtilä and if you want consistency then Jackie Hansen's got it, equalling his qualifying time. Another 7.0 from Magnus Hansson whilst Jöran Persåker loses a few hundredths. Michael Malmgren pulled the longest Pro Stock burnout I've ever seen before his match-up with Jimmy Ålund, easily four hundred feet. Yet another six from Jimmy Ålund, Michael loses a tenth. Ulf Jonsson is safe as Tommy Leindahl did not turn out for this session. The final qualifying standings in FIA Pro Stock are as follow:
16:10 FIM/UEM Pro Stock Bike qualifying session 4 Left lane first: Michal Ponca 10.225/206.07 bye, Remo Nasci 7.846/264.87, Vesa Rautio 7.493/286.80, Helen Curran 7.678/271.49, Anders Larsson broke, Chris Hope 7.697/280.35, Roger Pettersson 7.359/296.12, Anders Abrahamsson 7.784/279.22, Bo Thorselius broke Remo Nasci improved still further, whilst Vesa Rautio also stepped up although he did not move up the standings. Helen Curran and Chris Hope leapfrogged each other whilst Anders Larsson's bike broke off the line. Roger Pettersson running very consistently with another 7.3 and another 296. Bo Thorselius' bike broke in the burnout. The final qualifying standings in FIM/UEM Pro Stock Bike are as follow:

"It was absolutely awesome!", he said. "As soon as the front wheels came down I knew it was on a good one, it just kept on going". Contrary to what we understood, the GoTalk dragster did not nose into the kitty litter at the end of the track. "No way, I made the turn", said Andy. "I made it a bit faster than usual, but I made it!" Andy said that the team were just checking out the engine as he spoke but that apart from some oil blown out when he got off the throttle everything appeared to be in good shape. We also asked Andy about the change of rear wing, as the GoTalk car appeared with the rear wing of the MPM Oil dragster. Andy explained that during a photo session this morning, Andy's rear wing was inadvertently damaged by the MPM team and that after some discussion with Lex Joon it was agreed that Andy's car should use Lex's wing. 14:35 FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 2 Left lane first: Andy Carter 4.760/497.07 bye, Thomas Nataas 5.181/340.74, Micke Kågered 5.183/344.18, Jöran Persåker 5.095/410.02, Smax Smith 5.174/428.25, Lex Joon 7.813/116.85, Tommy Möller 5.546/290.90 An astounding run from Andy Carter, as soon as the GoTalk car left we knew this would be a good one. Header flames, hooked up, the lot! Andy's ET and speed will both be European records if he backs them up, Andy's speed equates to 308.86 mph. Andy had Lex Joon's wing on his car, a story we will have to follow up! Thomas Nataas and Micke Kågered followed up with a superb side-by-side qualifying pairing, a new PB for Thomas, both racers were off the throttle a short way before the finish line. Two more CBD cars in the next pairing, another excellent side-by-side match-up. Jöran was off the throttle a touch early and had his chutes out in the traps, a new PB, whilst Smax's run looked good and clean with just a touch of smoke at the finish. Lex Joon and Tommy Möller closed out the Top Fuel session, Lex had Andy Carter's wing on the car, as soon as we know why the swap we will let you know. Lex and Tommy both left very strongly, there was a lot of smoke from Lex's car at about 300 feet and he was off the throttle, lots of oil was found in his lane. Tommy was on a clean run but was off the throttle just after half track. The qualifying standings after this round are as follow:
14:20 NDRS Bilsport Pro Modified qualifying session 3 Left lane first: Peter Kunc 8.912/163.87, Robert Koper 7.134/292.26, Arnie Lindkvist shut off, Terje Hakonsen 8.753/173.47, Sverre Kahrs 7.777/232.30, Marc Meihuizen 6.698/322.62, Urban Johansson 6.926/328.17, Andy Robinson 9.748/168.10, Torsten Kath 7.210/317.34, Patrick Wikström 6.473/352.28, Christer Jacobs 18.125/66.71, Ulf Rapp broke, Freddy Fagerström 7.346/330.54, Seppo Saapola 9.547/163.36, Henri Joosten 7.061/291.78, Norbert Kuno 6.931/339.53, Tomi Pöntinen 6.637/340.73, Håkan Fällström 6.650/336.86, Roger Johansson 6.569/343.37, Mats Eriksson 13.292/94.97, Håkan Nilsson 6.491/348.18, Micke Gullquist 6.508/348.17, Micke Lindahl 6.404/351.06 Peter Kunc hit shake and went out of shape at about half-track, and got off the throttle, Robert Koper also went out of shape but stayed with it. Arnie Lindkvist left a widening trail of oil to half-track during his burnout, Freddy Fagerström in the other lane had already pulled a four hundred foot burnout but had to be shut off as it was obviously not safe for him to run with Arnie's car stranded on the track. On the restart Terje Hakonsen and Sverre Kahrs led the way, Terje hit very bad shake at about eighty feet and the car headed straight for the centre line, Terje pedalled and got back on it and the car shook again, eventually he called it a day. Sverre also hit a little shake. Marc Meihuizen put in a splendid pass to put himself firmly in the sixteen-car field, Urban Johansson improved by two thousandths. Andy Robinson's pass was almost a carbon copy of Terje Hakonsen's run, into shake at about thirty feet and the car turning hard right, Gus really had his hands full. Patrick Wikström pulled the burnout of the weekend, just about to half track, before his match-up with Christer Jacobs then set a new track speed record whilst Christer was off the throttle not far off the line. Well done Patrick! Not to be outdone, Freddy Fagerström pulled a huge burnout and rolled to about a thousand feet but still got back to the start line at the same time as Ulf Rapp! Something broke on Ulf Rapp's car at the hit, lots of shaking after the break so maybe the rear axle, Freddy hit shake and pedalled a number of times. Henri Joosten drove through shake and then put the chute out just before the finish line, Seppo Saapola was off the throttle before half track. A great run from Tomi Pöntinen, the car launched like a rocket and went straight down the middle of the lane, moving Tomi up a couple of spots. Norbert Kuno's run looked just fine. Håkan Fällström and Roger Johansson had an excellent match-up, the cars side-by-side all the way, Håkan leapfrogging Freddy whilst Roger stayed where he was. Mats Eriksson and Håkan Nilsson left the line together but Mats' car threw a blower belt at a hundred feet, whilst Håkan put in a very consistent pass. Micke Gullquist and Micke Lindahl then took the title of pairing of the weekend so far, Micke Lindahl got the jump and set a new track ET record again, well done Micke! Micke Gullquist is getting better each run and moved up the standings with his pass. The qualifying standings after this round are as follow:
Courtesy of Patrik Jacobsson comes the news that Gordon Appleton will not be competing any further this weekend as he has broken a rod. Gordon reportedly thinks that his new block may also be damaged. 13:00 FIM/UEM Supertwin qualifying session 3 Left lane first: Per Bengtsson 6.995/297.70, Carsten Andersson 9.098/227.73, Fredrik Solheim 7.279/307.01, Svein Gottenberg shut off on line, Jaska Salakari shut off after burnout, Per Olov Berglund 9.265/231.68, Greger Johansson 7.347/264.40, Cato Waale 8.723/241.59, Joakim Riemer 9.405/201.17, Stefan Junerud 9.485/147.27, Trond Alm 10.909/169.21, Hans Olav Olstad 7.211/314.18, Hans Christian Nils 7.589/285.96, Svein Olav Rolfstad 6.964/318.18 bye, Ronny Aasen did not start, Anders Karling 6.862/314.40, Ton Pels 6.858/324.95 Per Bengtsson feathered the throttle very briefly on his pass, a good-looking run aside from that. Carsten Andersson was on and off the throttle all the way down the track. Svein Gottenberg shut off on the line, Fredrik Solheim improved on his solo. Jaska Salakariäs engine leaned out after his burnout, from his body language as the engine stopped it didn't look as if he had shut it off himself. A big improvement from Greger Johansson with more to come since Greger was headed for the top end timing reflectors and got off the throttle early. Stefan Junerud was on a very good pass to about three hundred feet where he hit a bad wobble and got off the throttle, Trond Alm's exhaust was smoking in the second half of the track. A nice match-up between Hans Olav Olstad and Hans Christian Nils, both racers on the throttle to the finish and Hans Olav moved up the standings with his pass. Svein Olav Rolfstad put in a great-looking pass, into the sixes and second place and on a solo after Ronny Aasen's bike failed to start. The qualifier between Anders Karling and Ton Pels was the run of the event so far, the bikes side-by-side all the way, Anders improved to take second place and Ton Pels consolidated his #1 spot with an improvement. The qualifying standings after this round are as follow:
12:35 FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 3 Left lane first: Arto Höylä 6.121/347.58 bye, Krister Johansson 5.986/304.52, Rob Turner 5.996/388.51, Peter Schöfer 6.247/248.72, Dave Wilson 5.463/415.82 A much stronger pass from Arto Höylä today, yesterday's transmission problems sorted with spares from a Pro Mod team. Arto stays fifth but will be happy with that pass as a baseline. Rob Turner went way out of shape in his match-up against Krister Johansson, the back end of the car crossed the centre line but Rob wrenched it back and got back on the throttle. Krister's dragster launched like a rocket and he improved upon his ET although not enough to overhaul Rob. Both Peter Schöfer and Dave Wilson left the line as if shot from a gun, a tiny amount of shake which both drove through, then Peter's car threw a part at half track. Dave set a new track record, nice one Dave! The qualifying standings after this round are as follow:
12:30 FIM/UEM Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 3 Left lane first: Eric Teboul 6.732/298.64, Viep Bloemen 14.749/149.02, Sverre Dahl 9.655/144.19 bye, Joey Bon shut off, Johan Emilson 10.459/202.11, Peter Andersson Ström 7.054/279.31, Robert Karlsson 8.215/243.02, Shaun Branch 7.729/282.65, Tommy Jonsson 8.534/246.02, Mikael Andersson 8.031/279.37, Jon Leret 7.154/306.37, Antonio Ferretti 7.227/290.27, Roel Koedam 16.251/101.49 Eric Teboul's pass was straight and true, some smoke towards the top end and word came back from the shutdown area that there was oil in his lane. Viep's bike hesitated off the start line. Joey Bon shut off after his burnout, Sverre Dahl's bike left very strongly but raw fuel appeared from the exhaust at about sixty feet, Sverre feathered the throttle and it cleared, but then at about three hundred feet the raw fuel appeared again and Sverre got off the throttle. Peter Andersson Ström was on a very strong pass, the front wheel did not come down until three hundred feet, he feathered the throttle very briefly in the second half of the track but still moved up the placings. Johan Emilson's bike was puffing smoke at every gear change. Shaun Branch's 7.6-second pass yesterday was disallowed and so this pass put him back in the field. Robert Karlsson moved one spot up the standings with his run. Jon Leret appeared to hit a bump just before half track and he got off the throttle briefly, and it didn't sound as if he put the throttle all the way back on. Mikael Andersson improved slightly but stays where he is in the standings. Antonio Ferretti put in a strong, straight pass whilst Reol Koedam's engine hesitated big time off the line - we initially thought his chain had broken but he carried on up the track. The qualifying standings after this round are as follow:
11:55 FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 3 Left lane first: Ulf Leanders 11.894/112.76 bye, Arvid Grødem 14.423/82.98, Dan Larsen 6.664/302.80, Leif Andréasson 6.099/345.44, Jörgen Johnsson 7.692/193.70, Niclas Andersson 38.386/13.26, Urs Erbacher 5.877/398.8 Ulf Leanders hit bad shake off the line and was quickly off the throttle. The match-up between Arvid Grødem and Dan Larsen was dramatic, Arvid's pressure relief panel blew off at about sixty feet whilst Dan hit shake and was all over his lane, his 'chute deployed at about two hundred feet but he stayed on the throttle all the way! There was some consternation around Leif Andréasson's FC before it started, Jörgen Johnsson was already backing up from his three hundred foot burnout before Leif's engine fired, but they arrived back at the start line at the same time. Jörgen was way quicker than Leif off the line, but started to drift towards the guardrail in the second half of the track, meanwhile Leif drifted a little out of the groove but hung onto it. Niclas Andersson's tyres went up in smoke at the hit, the back end of the car jumped up violently, whilst Urs hooked up and went, a consistent pass. The qualifying standings after this round are as follow:
11:25 FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 3 Left lane first: Tommy Leindahl 8.176/273.76, Magnus Hansson 7.047/314.93, Jackie Hansen 7.138/316.38, Kenneth Soderström 7.238/305.90, Jöran Persåker 7.076/313.01, Ulf Jonsson 7.174/311.43, Peter Emilsson 7.197/308.00, Eero Knihtilä 7.049/311.39, Michael Malmgren 7.060/319.09, Jimmy Ålund 6.899/322.21 Magnus Hansson found his season's form with a much-improved pass, Tommy Leindahl seemed to take a long time to get to stage and then his engine hesitated with a bang on launch. Jackie Hansen moved up the standings, from here it appeared that he hit a small amount of shake so there's more there yet. A big improvement from Jöran Persåker moved him up the standings, Ulf Jonsson ran a thousandth quicker than his previous qualifying time. A small improvement from Eero Knihtilä left him in fourth, Peter Emilsson dropped back a few hundredths. Jimmy Ålund ran the first 200 mph Pro Stock pass in Europe, 322.21 kmh = 200.21 mph, and backed it up for a record, and set a new European ET record too with the first-ever 6.8-second pass in Europe. Michael Malmgren put in a consistent pass but won't be happy to see his remaining European record taken away. The qualifying standings after this round are as follow:
11:10 FIM/UEM Pro Stock Bike qualifying session 3 Left lane first: Chris Hope 7.700/278.59, Michal Ponca 9.645/214.10, Bo Thorselius broke, Remo Nasci 7.955/264.14, Anders Abrahamsson 7.670/276.25, Anders Larsson 7.430/290.68, Herman van Driel 7.878/264.99, Vesa Rautio 7.566/285.20, Helen Curran 7.808/266.92, Roger Pettersson 7.407/295.53 A nice pass from Chris Hope moved him up the field. Bo Thorselius shut off his engine on the line, Remo Nasci took the single and improved his ET but not his placing. Anders Larsson leapfrogged Vesa Rautio with a very strong pass, close to his PB we think. Consistent passes from Herman van Driel and Vesa Rautio, and also from Helen Curran and Roger Pettersson.
