2004 Veidec Nitro Festival Lördag / SaturdayIt was another long night for the web crew last night, we were in the track office from the end of qualifying until about midnight trying to make a PC work, so the pit notes are a little sparse this morning. One of yesterday's big stories was the arrival of NDRS Bilsport Pro Modified racer Lars-Inge Johansson with his new blown-alcohol station wagon. Patrik Jacobsson of the European Pro Mod Racers Association tells us that the car has not yet been scrutineered but Lars Inge is hoping to make at least one of today's qualifying sessions. Niclas Andersson took a far from straight ride in the Sandflex Top Methanol FC yesterday afternoon, and he said that he is planning to find a shortcut today. Fellow TMFC racer Martin Lundqvist has his new TMFC on display in the pits promoting team sponsor IronCAD. The car is in a very nice black and green paintscheme, Martin said that the Leanders Brothers FC is to be repainted in a similar scheme in black and blue next season. Martin may be at the FIA European Finals with the car, if not then definitely for the start of next season. Jöran Persåker said that his Top Fuel qualifying pass yesterday, which had the highest speed in TF of 440.49 kmh, was made on seven cylinders. "I was very happy with the high speed", he said. If you were tuned in yesterday, you will recall that we didn't see what happened to Lex Joon after he disappeared behind Monica Öberg's wall of smoke during Top Fuel qualifying. "I had to pedal once, then I got off it at a thousand feet", he said. Top Fuel #2 qualifier Smax Smith said that the Promise TF team have to work on the first eighth. "I get to half track and it takes off like a cork out of a bottle!", he said. Subject to ratification we had two European speed records broken yesterday. Jimmy Ålund reset his own European Pro Stock speed record with a run of 321.07 kmh (199.50 mph) in the first session of qualifying yesterday, backing it up with a 320.05 in the second session. The second of yesterday's records was in Pro Stock Bike where Sweden's Roger Pettersson ran 297.40 kmh (184.80 mph) in session one, backed up with a 296.11 in the second session. Our good buddy Patrik Jacobsson brought us some notes from the NDRS Bilsport Pro Modified pits. Micke Lindahl is very pleased to be number one qualifier. The team took the engine apart and everything looks really good. Yesterday's pass was a new PB ET and speed for Micke. Håkan Nilsson was there and said "I'll be number one qualifier!". Mats Eriksson has a brand new clutch but says that this is causing the car to move around. His pass of 351.89 was a new best speed for Mats at Mantorp. The team think that the track is superb and they think that Mats could run 6.4s, they think that the bump spot will be in the 6.9s. Robert Koper is pleased to get so many qualifying passes. He thinks that the track is really good. Robert had a nitrous failure in the first qualifier, and had a transmission problem in the second session. This is Robert's first time in Pro Mod at Mantorp. Stefan Peterson had too much clutch slip on the last run, but he thinks that the team can sort that out. This is the team's first outing with this car. |
